Another reason to always aspirate......

We always talk about why you should always aspirate.....so you don't inject into a blood vessel.....while many do still some don't....well, here's another reason.....

I went to inject into my left delt yesterday.....now granted I use my delts a lot, probably more than I should....I always use a 1" pin.....so I go to inject and aspirate and holy shit I aspirate pus into the syringe.....now I had no signs of anything in the shoulder except for some slight discomfort I attributed to a training injury....no sweeling, no redness, and no discomfort when pressing on the area.....the discomfort I thought was a training injury started last week....so I used a bunch of pins and drew out a few cc's of pus.....when I got home later in the day I did it again useing both a 1" and 1.5" pin until I aspirated bright red blood.....

So what was it?.....a sterile abscess....basically it's an infection that is completely encapsulated in epithelium.....there are no local or systemic (fever, sickness) signs of an infection.....this is not to say it would not have come to that but it could sit there for quite some time without detection......the only way I found it is by aspirating.....

If you get one what should you do?.....GO TO A DOCTOR.....do not try and treat it yourself like I did.....I am a doc and am friends with many docs so I know what I'm doing.....I drained it via aspiration and put myself on a Z-pak (zithromax) for 10 days.....if any complications arise I'll get an MRI to determine what tissue damage, if any, is present.....

just thought I'd share

Good Post Gilly. Aspirating is definitely VERY important. Play it safe.

Kind of wierd there where no symptoms. Maybe there would have been as it got worse. Good catch for you and good post for us! Thanks.

for some unknown reason, each time I took zithromax I had noticable strenght gains. I have my own little theory about it, which is that z-max increase nitrogen retention. Oh well anyways... Did you noticed that?

I had a similar issue with that a few cycles ago. It was the 14th week of a cycle & I went to aspirate in a glute & drew pink fluid into the syringe so I switched pins & hit the other glute & same thing. I was however having a problem with pain from BA irritation using QV250. I didn't draw the fluid out or go to the doc but, I did take a z-pack. I also ended my cycle at that point.

I have had the same thing happen to me but in my rt bicep.... I think I was just injecting too often in my bis, so i injected somewhere else. This happened like a year ago, I did not go see a doc or anything because there was no pain or fever. Looking back that was a bad idea. Everything is fine...
