Another CKD Question

Well, I don't know all there is to know about Atkins, but the main differences to me are :

CKD emphasises healthy fats ie: flax, fish oil etc.
CKD involves a very specific macronutrient breakdown, and counts calories.

ckd = low carb diet for active people who actually care about their health and the way they look

Atkins = Low carb diet for fat asses who want an easy way out and an excuse to eat fried eggs and bacon

I understand that, I was looking more for specifics. :D

This is kind of what I was wondering. I'm trying to do CKD, but it seemed way too complicated to come up with a different diet for each day of the week. I basically made up a Low Carb diet (for six days a week) and a Carb Up diet. For the Low Carb diet, I just averaged all 6 days together.

Do you think this is going against the CKD principles? Is it going to make that much difference if I work out each day individually?

I do think it's going to make a difference if you just average it out over 6 days. For example, Mr. X has the fat high and protein really low the first two days after a carb up, this is to get you back into ketosis as quick as possible. If you just do the same diet as you would on day 5 & 6, it will likely take longer to get into ketosis...

It takes a bit of figuring to come up with a diet for each day, but you only have to do it once.

I used Excel, made a small spreadsheet with a list of all the foods I can eat and their nutritional breakdown (fitday.com). Then I could just add or take away items to make up the menu's for all the days.

Try the online CKD calculator brought to you by the infamous Mr.X!! It will figure all of the macronutrient breakdowns for each day of the week.

Or are you concerned more with food choices as opposed to the actual breakdown of macro's?

Yeah, I've used the calculator. I just didn't feel like sitting down and figuring out the food to eat for those six individual days.

Well, that being said, I think I might put some more effort in this and really try to nail this diet.

Any suggestions on high-fat, low-protein, low-carb foods? That seems to be my biggest problem. (I'm already taking 2 tablespoons of flax seed oil a day...I definitely don't want any more)

LOL.. yeah the flax sucks I can't handle more than 2 spoons a day either. What about mixing in 1 spoon of olive oil to something else.. omelette? Chicken?

Or maybe peanut butter (natty) 1 tablespoon = 8 fat, 4 pro, 1.5 carbs...

EFA's fuel you best while on CKD. They don't taste great but they make a big difference in feeling weak and tired over feeling (almost) normal. I take about 6-8 spoons of flax and about 8-10 spoons of Udos per day. This also makes it easier for me to plan my meals, since i don't have to look for foods high in fat, just eat meats (protein) and some veggies for fiber. People tend to concentrate more on foods like cheese, pepperoni and pork rinds, while all those are good CKD foods, they also don't provide enough EFA's so people complaint of feeling tired and hungry and having horrible workouts.

Can I just say that when I started this diet just after Christmas I didn't reall have a clue what i was doing, I was eating too much protein and not enough fat, I was not doing any weights and generally was just doing atkins with a day when I could eat chocolate and shit, but thanks to people like Aston, Obiwan9962, Stryc-9 (If i have forgot anyone then sorry, my memory isn't my best point) and reading a lot of articles on CKD over the last 2 months I think I have only just cracked it, this week will have been the first week that I have done this diet PROPERLY, the best link I have found is "www.c-k-d.com" and go to the 'exercises' link and read up, although you can ask anyone here and get very good knowledgable answers!

Well is it really that hard to count calories? It will take a maximum of 10 minutes every day. I think its worth it.. ckd was the best diet Ive ever tried. And I will stick to it, because it works for me.

You must be able to eat same foods day in and day out. The one thing that made it all worth it was carbup day.. Every end of weekends I would have stuffed myself som badly I would puke If I got another carb. 1st days are fine then the cravings start, the worst day was always leg days. I would stretching out the muscles after the workout and my mouth watered as I dreamed of drinkin orange juice. I never gave into it, you cant.

Good luck on your coming diet SoSadBtTrue
