Aminos 'competing' with each other.

Can I take L-Tyrosine and 5-HTP(Or L-Tryptophan) both together on empty stomach or should I seperate them?

Would they 'compete' with each other if taken at the same time?

Fonz, can you explain? What aminos should not be combined with others if theraputic effects are the issue.

When you take L-Tyrosine, it should be taken on a empty stomach since it competes with other amino acides. From what I know, 5-HTP does not have this problem. This is one reason why many prefer it over L-Tryptophan. Because this also would need to be taken on a empty stomach.

There is an acetyl version of L-Tyrosine. Just like there is an acetyl version of L-caritinine. The acetyl versions cross the blood brain barrier and don't have issues the amino acid competition problem.

The amino acid competition is only relevant when you are taking amino acids to increase some type of brain function or neurotransmitter.

Tyrosine -> Dopamine
Tryptophan -> serotonin

wow! really? whatever i know about amino acid competition comes from 1980's Durk Pearson writings, and there was no mention of the acetyl versions not having this problem. this is great if true.

do you have a reference for this info so I can read more?

I think the acetyl version of aminos also should be taken on empty stomach. Otherwise I c no reason why macro would suggest so on their acetyl-l-carnitine product

5-htp makes me too drowsy the next day. if they sold 10mg pills then maybe i'd use it

I probably have the same life extension book. They did not have the acetyl versions back then as far as I know.
