Alcohol and Protein Synth....

I have heard many times that alcohol will stop muscle growth for a period of time..... My question is, does anyone know how long? Any studies on the topic? Is it just till the booze is out of your system, or longer after? Any info is appreciated.... Thanks

Ok, if you really want to know, I'm asking for informational purposes..... I actually DON'T DRINK at all..... but I have buddies that do, and I'm just wondering so I can throw knowledge at them.....

So you don't drink and lift - but your friends do - why are you so concerned about them?

You know these questions might be better off in PM if youre really interested.... Why am I concerned about my friends? Uhhhhhh..... Cause they're my friends...... Not concerned about their drinking..... If you really wanna know, and since you asked, my one buddy recently started lifting, but still goes out to party with his GF alot..... I told him that drinking stops protein synthesis, and he said he never heard of that..... So, I'm trying to get some info on it..... I didn't get my answer, I just got a smart ass answer from you.... We're all square? Were we not square? I don't get you dude..... I'm asking a legit question, and your Fing with me for some reason.... If you don't have an answer, just let it go..... Are we square now?

not sure but i avoid alcohol diuring serious trining.
 
look i have a bud light in my hand right now of course if ou drink every day your going to loose muscle but if you tend to drink during the playoffs as me maybe 3 weeks out of the year you'll be fine

Thanks for your input Alin.... I know alcohol supresses natural Test lvls for up to 24hrs, so that's long after youre not drunk anymore..... That's why I was wondering if Protein Synth is supressed that long as well..... Prob a good question for Ulter, X, or Macro....

Well this i'm actually glad to hear.... Not pulling punches is fine.... However, I'm no newbie bro..... Been in this game for over 15yrs now, and been on Elite since 1996, when the writing was red with a white background.... I'm really not looking for a "free booze pass"....

as for drinking, yeah ive heard it does indeed supress testosterone. therefore i would never ever drink while on a cycle. however im unsure about protein synthesis

Eh... no. He was asking for studies on it, not a fucking lecture from you. We're here to learn asshole, not have our ass torn from some little newbie fucktard who thinks he's our mum and decides to give us a lecture on what's bad for us.

And I respect the Board and MODS too, that's why I joined the site in 2001 and have stuck around and became a lifetime platinum member.

Now if you've nothing constructive to add do us all a favour and take your attitude elsewhere.

Prizz, if i remember right Ulter posted a study some time back regarding alcohols effect on protein metabolism - try a search on his username.

and yes protein synthesis is inhibited by alcohol in fast muscle fibers.

Alcohol also causes insulin-resistance as well as hinders the release of Growth Hormone from the brain. Chronic alcohol consumption also reduces our IGF-1 levels. These combined effects will slow muscle development.

dude what the fucks your problem? anyways, alcohol does inhibit protein synthesis, can cause unrestful sleep and increases recovery time because of the various toxins in your body. to be completely honest, im not a drinker either, but ill have a beer or 2 on the weekend and weed sometimes, but i have friends that drink every weekend and it doesnt seem to have much of an effect on their muscle growth. they are all stronger than me and i hardly ever drink, i stick to eating healthy and everything, but i know if i drink a lot it takes me longer to recover. from what i know a night of drinking can set u back about 4 days. this is just my 2 cents.
 
God damn someones on the rag... Bro I have a couple glasses of red wine almost every night with my pound of steak.. I always keep my water intake over a gallon per day and I rarely ever get out of hand on the weekends.. I can tell you this.. When I have drank in excess it takes about3-4 days to get my weight back up and my training back on schedule.. But ive been doing this for some time now and I consider myself to be in the upper couple percents of non-pro bodybuilders and a couple drinks is NOT going to hinder your gains... I would like to see anything or anyone that really thinks a beer or a couple glasses of wine in addition to a complete diet and h20 intake would really hinder your gains.... life is too short bro.. u dont know when its over.. have your goals but enjoy the time u are here...
 
OK, this post has gotten a lil side tracked, and some flame throwing in here too..... All responses are great, but what I'm really looking for is information on how long alcohol will supress protein synth...... Really not looking for a poll on who drinks, and who doesn't...... This might sound like a joke, or a "drink Free Card" post, but I'm really looking for the correct information..... I know the answer is out there, and doing a Google search on this topic isn't working out too well..... So, I figured I'd ask here.... I still have faith in the board.....

the strongest man in the world drinks and he seems pretty serious about his training.

3/4 of nfl offensive linemen drink - i guess you think they're not serious about making a living from their strength and training.
