alcohol and fat loss

If you were dieting and say on your cheat day you binged on alcohol would all those empty calories turn to fat and reck your diet.

No way. Alcohol cannot, under any circumstances, turn to fat. It's the food you have with the alcohol that turns to fat. So be sure to binge drink on an empty stomach!

Not a wise idea, but your gonna do what you want anyway. While its not the alcohol itself that generally gets stored as fat, as MS said any fat ingested and possibly carbs if glycogen if filled will go directly to fat storage. Alcohol is poison to the body and must be completely eliminated from the body before any other fuel (glucose, fats, ketones) can be used as an energy source. Now take into account that beer has carbs and empty calories, excess calories for the day and the body will store add bodyfat. Hard alcohol generally has sugars added which again are calories and sugar is shit anyway, more potential fat storage. Drink mixed drinks with juice/soda, etc., if theres carbs more calories, potential fat storage. Alcohol can decrease testosterone for several days and raises estrogen as well as cortisol. A perfect environment for more bodyfat accumulation and muscle loss, as well as less muscle gain.

Again, do what you want and most people choose to enjoy themselves, especially on weekends which is understandable, but you should know whats going on and what effects it will have on your weight lifting and dieting efforts.

On that note if possible Vodka is your best choice if you drink according to Charles Poliquin.

Not only that, but alcohol is a depressent. It slows down ALL of your body's natural processes -- including muscle growth and metabolism. Team that with the carbonation in beer and your digestion will be near a halt.

The good part though, is that alcohol dehydrates you. So if you have only a few drinks, you'll be shredded in the morning. (Assuming you can get up.)

Alcohol consumption also increases estrogen levels while decreasing testosterone. It decreases aerobic capacity as well. On the plus side, people who consume moderate amounts of alcohol greatly reduce their risk of type 2 diabetes and heart disease. Moderate consumption increases glucose/insulin sensitivity. I don't really think you can call it an absolutely good OR evil thing to put in your body, just be aware of the importance of moderation. And avoid excess calories anytime you drink alcohol. Stick to straight spirits or low carb beers and wines and don't use sweet or fatty mixers. Don't eat crap food while you're drinking.
