ALA v. CLA

Hi,

I've read that both Alpha Lipoic Acid and Conjugated Linoleic Acid can inhibit fat storage and increase the breakdown of existing fat reserves. Is one better than the other? Do they work differently? Which would you recommend and at what dose?

You could do both for sure.

They are totally different compounds. CLA is a type of fatty acid. ALA is not.

Use ALA at 2-4g a day, most divide and use with meals.
Use CLA at 1-15g a day, based on your intake of other fatty acids (EPA/DHA, Fish Oils, Flax, etc.) and fat intake in general
 
BB, thank you for your reply. 2-4g of ALA a day sounds high. Do you think I could see results at less than 1g/day?
 
I take 300 mg's ALA 3 to 4 times a day. I am eating like a hog, tying to add lean mass. My BF% is dropping.

I was on ECA to the tune of 600mg's caffiene a day and quit cold turkey due to chest pain. I thought I would stop burning fat.

I have isolated fat deposites, lupoma I think its called, several of them. I was told by a doctor they will not go away with out being surgically removed.

Ever since I stopped the ECA they have gotten smaller. One on my forearm that people use to notice is now 1/2 the size and unnoticeable.

There is no question in my mind that ALA aids in fat loss. and like I said I take from 900 to 1200 mg's a day.
