ALA - Preventing Degredation

Scatocephalus

New member
ALA seems to becoming all the rage but one of it's drawbacks appears to be it's degredation once exposed to the atmosphere. It was mentioned that dumping the ALA in oil would help prevent this. I wonder if adding ALA to a bottle of flax oil would work?Interesting thought if it helps prevent the degredation of the ALA. Since it is oil soluable it should readily disolve and when I put the flax oil in my shakes I will get the added ALA.

Anyone else have a thought about this?

encapsulation :)

it takes little time to hand cap, even without a cap-m-quick, 100g of powder..

i used to cap my own..though there are cheap enough caps that buying powder is.. not really necesarry, unless you really nead to save meny and want to cap yourself..

I didn't find degredation to be an issue with my 50 gram bottle of powder. A couple of silica packets thrown into the bottle and keeping the cap on tight was fine. At 2.5 - 3.5 grams/day, it isn't around long enough to degrade.

P.S. I know it didn't decrease in efficacy because my ketostix readings remained consistent without increasing dosage.

probably true.. but there is the "taste" factor.. but it matters less to some

True about the taste, but it's not so bad if one just scoops the raw powder into their mouth, takes a swig of water and swishes the powder and water together, gulps, then washes with more water. It would be awful if people try to stir it into a shake or something (as I've read some have done).

Powder is also less convenient; you can't throw a scoop of powder in your pocket if you're going somewhere, etc... (although I have done so with a ziplock)... but there are tradeoffs for everything... I'm on a relatively limited budget, so I go where I can get the most bang for the buck...

P.S. Mac, you don't happen to know if ALA is broken down in the body via CYP3A4 isomers do you? Also, do you know if ALA is effected by glucoproteins?
