African Union created

Lao Tzu

New member
Apparently Africa has followed the lead of Europe and created a continental union called the "African Union" which consists of 53 african nations who are unifying, and will replace the OAU.

This info is kind of useless and the A.U. is still considered to be a form of dictatorship, but it brings to light all the multinational organizations in existence (militarily: UN peacekeepers, NATO, anti-terror coalition; governmentally: UN, EU, AU, ASEAN). Is this what is next for the world, 7 or 8 gigantic military or government alliances instead of 192 independent nations?

Wow an African Union  this will be like an investing club made up of homeless people.

Africa doesn't have a working Rhode Island never mind a united states. That's pure pie in the sky bullshit. Most international institutions only exist in the minds of a few hundred bureaucrats and have no impact on reality. This is another one, a boondoggle where millionaire Nigerian generals can get jobs for their younger sons.

the EU can get shit accomplished because it is made up of so many prosperous industrialised nations

africa is still run by gansters and sharks in many countries. when a bunch of people go mental its the UN thathas to sort the problem out, other african natons dont go n there (S.Adfrica has a big enough army)

African Union??? LOL -- Value of a new roll of film -- $3.99, Value of 12-pack of Coke -- 2.99 with coupon... value of the African Union -- One Dollar... knowing that forming the AU will have no effect on the world as it stands now... priceless.

My post was about international unions, not whether the AU has any power. They have a $40 million debt and they consider it a big deal, $40 million is nothing for the rest of the world.

My point is have internatinoal unions always existed or are they a new phenomena?

NATO
UN
League of Nations
USSR
EU
AU
ASEAN

Are we entering a world of multinational agendas (economic, political, militaristic, legal) rather than national agendas? the UN & AU have courts and troops designed to work within any country (191 & 53 respectively) who is part of them. That is no different than federal troops or federal courts having authority in any of the 50 states in america.

International unions have always existed. Think of the Delian League and the Hanseatic League, for example. They're just easier now, because communication and transport over distances is easier.
