Addicted to CKD??

MrMuscle

New member
CKD scares the living shit outta me.
Throwing back tons of saturated fat doenst sound like a good idea to me.

I can't bring myself to come off....for feeling like shit the first two weeks on it, I feels sooo much better now, on it, than off. Not sure if I can handle coming off this to a clean 40/40/20 diet...or something in that ballpark. I thought that besides the great fat loss I've had on this diet, it would also help with disciplining me and my inake of carbs (when I do take them) I find that I can't control that. A Beverly International diet is far harder (IMO) than CKD.

Anyone else find this to happen to them?

Im in day 9, never felt like crap, except for the very first day. You dont have to come off, and you dont have to eat bad fats either. You can do CKD with good food, although it can get expensive. But as far as coming off, you can stay and do carbups more often for maintenance.

Yeah but i hear people eat like real greasy foods.
And i just cant see how that can do you heart any good.
I am one of those that belives fat IS good. Unsaturated fat that is. I eat a 30% of my total caloric needs.

It scares me b/c of the amount of fat and lack of protein on some days. On day 1 it says I am supposed to take in 115 grams of protein!!!! I weigh 250 and it scares me.

Whoa lack of protein? Where are you getting your instructions? I just cut all carbs except for the 20-25 grams I ingest incidentally (in some cold cuts, yokes and mrp bars and drinks) and I dont worry about the quantity in grams, I just eat when Im hungry. Been in trace ketosis for a week and I feel great, workouts are excellent so far.

Ketosis put you in a state where growing is VERY difficult. It may not be impossible, but not a state I believe you want to have your body in continuosly.

The trick is to always hover on the brink of ketosis, mild ketosis as it were. I dont go into full ketosis except when I workout, towards the end it starts to kick in, if I dont eat in 3-4 hours it starts to get stronger, but I always stay right on the edge.

I used one of the CKD calculators.

Hehe, I just eat. Like now, Im having:"

six egg whites
two yolkes
4 strips of bacon
4 slices of muenster cheese

Thats my breakfast omlet. For lunch, its a couple cheeseburgers, chicken for dinner, one mrp bar before training, 40 grams of nocarb whey post workout, and a mrp drink whenever I feel hungry. Its been great so far.

Mr. Muscle in a tutu should scare the hell out of everyone.

Gradually increase your carb intake over the course of 1 to 2 weeks to your desired amount of carbs. Increase the amount of carbs you take in after your workout initially, then start to increase carbs in your non-workout meals, until you have increased your intake to your non-CKD level. Try to lower your sat. fat intake at the same time to avoid shuttling fat to adipocytes.

I just noticed your signature my man. I humbly approve and think it's a great thing that you're doing here. Keep fighting the good fight brother.

Have you read up on Lyle McDonald's stuff?

He has done a lot of research on this and has some great writings.

The growth comes with the carb ups and it isn't as much as if you were eating a bulking diet, but you can sustain growth over a long time - just not quickly.

Once you get down below a certain point (I think it is 10-12%), then the low carb type diet does really nothing for you other than being a logically easy way to reduce calories - but you can do any low calorie diet at that point and then just add in the cyclical function of refuel days and get the growth from that.

I gotta run to talk to one of the owners here - but I have to say that LM really knows his shit.

Taking in too much
protein may knock you
out of ketosis, according
to atkins.

Also, taking in lots of carbs - especially after depleting them, will result in a surge in your serotonin levels which can leave you feeling dizzy and almost drunk feeling.

If it is a lot of simple sugars that you are taking in, then you will also likely get a surge of fluid to the stomach and intestines and then within an hour have runny shits.

Both of those are normal side effects of large doses of simple sugars.

When chicks read this, they're going to want to fuck your brains out for sure.

not true? why? everywhere I've read pretty much says you can NOT grow on CKD.

frigging can't stand ckd. made me way too weak in my workouts. now I'm trying this new revolutionary diet, it's called "eating less". amazing.

I eat less...then more...then just this stuff and then just that stuff. Works quite well..

Well if you start gulping down sugar right after a no carb phase you are an idiot. Periodic carbups should be gradual and done with low glycemic complex carbs.

Thats why I like it, its strict, but oh so simple. Yesterday, I was out all day, and I was starving so I had two double whoppers with cheese hold everything, ate just the meat and cheese and I was good till I got home. Wouldnt eat like that often, but its nice to be able to eat fast food in a tight situation.

Proteins can be deaminated =/, proteins convert to sugar at 58% efficiency. It's a high fat diet :)

Well, that would explain why Im always in trace ketosis, because I take in a lot more protein than fat. So i guess Im not "by the book CKD", but its definitely ketogenic. I guess its not as "cyclical" because I feel no need for a carb up. So Im on a modified ketogenic diet...well, whatever, its working so far.

If it works then by all means. Empirical results far outweight theory.

I did get that drunk feeling this weekend :). Good stuff Martha

I did at first...not so much now...but I can tell in my workouts...not as intense.

it isn't as efficient a process as with carbs, but it works once your body adapts to it.

some people much prefer it and it solves tireness issues for them as well as headaches.

all I know is that it is not something you want to do if you are doing endurance training.

It was a joint effort w/ Strider. :)

I went from 230 20+% bodyfat to 200 10% in three months on CKD. I did NOT have the same energy for workouts. I`ve learned that ECA will do wonders in those situations.

I followed Mr X`s guidelines to a T. It worked pretty well. I actually think you do need to carb up even if it`s once every 2 weeks, you should do it. I carbed up weekly. Started with simple sugars in the morning and by the end of the day I was eating oatmeal, brown rice.

Also, If you use the keto strips they are`nt always accurate.
