My understanding is that ALA stimulates insulin receptors on muscle cells which increases uptake of glucose, i.e. disposing glucose into the muscle cell.
The question I have is does ALA also increase insulin activity at fat cells? If it did, could it have somewhat negative effects (if above maintenance calories) in that it would tend
to promote fat gain? Also, if ALA does increase insulin activity at the fat cells, is activity preferentially at the
muscle cell over the fat cell?
As far as dieting is concerned, ALA would seem to offer great benefits if on a low carb CKD.
