I don't know if anyone has lived in an area where there have been water shortages, but I have. Nothing severe, but there was a warning. People don't do anything to prevent a problem, only to get rid of one, and it annoys me. Now, one thing that crossed my mind as someone who drinks two gallons of water a day was how often you flush the toilet.
Now, I'm sure many people will laugh. I mean, I laugh at myself for thinking about it, but when you actually think about it, a lot of water is wasted. I'm not suggesting people don't flush their waste either - that's gross and just not how society should be. However, I have to pee about 4 times an hour. Not all day, but there are periods where I'm just researching (yes, researching rather than being out at 17, I'm a loser) anything and everything that sparks my interest and guzzling down water.
So, anyone who drinks water this much knows how your pee gets clear. It's pretty much just water you're pissing out, right? Now, let's say I go to the bathroom 10 times a day - just flushing out water that I drank. I have no idea on the amount, but I figure at least 3.5 gallons of water in the toilet at a time, which gets flushed and refilled. That's 35 gallons of water. Now...that's enough water for me for 17 days, and not that everyone drinks that much and uses any facility that often but...doesn't anyone else see that as a waste?
I mean, why bother flushing if it's just water? I can understand if you're doing number two, or your urine smells something fierce, but other than that...why? It's just wasting water unnecessarily. I'm weird, don't even tell me that. Still, I don't think we'd have problems like water shortages if stupid things like this were taken into account more. I'm thinking of just going outside when I have to pee now. Fresh air is good for you anyway.
