It's long, yes. But a transformation indeed.
My day of feeling like shit has come to an end, and I'm calling it quits for the night. Thanks to everyone that replied to my thread in a helpful way. My roommate and I are cool. We kicked it with each other for most the night. Just laughed it off. Shit happens, you know. The other friend I fought a few weeks ago is doing well. He hasn't smoked pot in almost 2 weeks, as opposed to multiple times every day, he hasn't drank alcohol in almost 2 weeks, as opposed to every day. He has a job, rather than being unemployed as he had been for the past few months. A few days after we fought, I dropped the book "Awakening the Buddha Within" off to his house. He has been reading it, and as I've stated to you guys before... it changes anyone that reads it for the better. He's a Catholic. Reading a Buddhist book. That's the open mindedness a person needs to have in order to have a true spectrum or opinion. A person that just educates himself about one area is not educated. He's close minded. Whoops...
starting to get off on a rant here... but I highly recommend it.
It does wonders no matter your religous preferences, because Buddhism isn't so much a religion as an applied guide to the spiritual path, the enlightenment that awaits every one who is suffering. And anyone who is alive is suffering. We all know this to be true. We have many good things, sure. But we are constantly tested. For an easy example let's use the Elite Karma as an example. Let's say that every day that you live, every decision you make, every impact you have on a person's life, is related to karma in your real life. It's either negative or positive. You know the person that walks around always saying "Why me, why do I always get shit on." Well, the way I see it, as my sig says ""Tomorrow is a result of today, and you are the result of yesterday." Meaning, the choices we made yesterday, put us where we are today. The choices we make today, make us who we are tomorrow. No matter how big or small the decision. You see an ant walking on the sidewalk and simply step over it, rather than killing it for no reason. Karma. When a store clerk makes a mistake and gives you back more money than you should have gotten back... we will pay for the decisions we make, every day of our lives. Let's go back to the people that explain their life with the “I get shit on all the time” phrase? This person refuses to accept any responsibility for the result of his actions. For the results of his actions. The circumstances he faces now are a result of him. Of his karma, I should say. Karma is described in the dictionary as the force generated by a person’s actions held in Hinduism and Buddhism to perpetuate transmigration and in its ethical consequences to determine the nature of the person’s next existence. Read the description carefully and think about its meaning for a moment. It is not merely a “coincidence” that this person “gets shit on all the time”; it is his demeanor that causes him to be in that particular existence. Every moment in our quest in life is an existence. The reason his bad karma continues for his life is because he does not look at himself deeply; spiritually. He doesn’t look at himself honestly, and because he does not, he doesn’t change and his karma continues. He is constantly causing himself to be placed in an existence of bad karma, without even realizing that he is simply the result of his actions It is not a coincidence. In fact I don't believe in a coincidence at all. The word coincidence is described in the dictionary as the occurrence of events that happen at the same time by accident but seem to have some connection. When we are children we don’t question those two descriptions. Merriam-Webster has described the two words as they are above, and when we are tested for vocabulary in elementary school the above answers are correct. As we grow older, we start to question a lot of events in life in wonder about reasons. The word coincidence has the word accident in the description. There is no such thing as an accident. That is the way we look at it in life maybe, but in actuality this situation has come to be because of something we have done. Whether positive or negative we are in a constant quest in life, and this "coincidence" as we call it, has become a part of it. Be righteous in your day to day decisions, and you will be rewarded. If you don't believe me... try it for a month. Things just start to get easier when you have positive karmic energy.
Well, that's my jist... and my words of encouragement to all of you. If you have time, I strongly recommend the book. I am not trying to throw religion or different beliefs to any of you. I respect your religion, as I respect mine. I also read very many different Religious beliefs. Just because you pick up a book, doesn't mean you can't be Jewish/Catholic/Christian/Mormon,etc...
nor would I ever try to deter you from a postive force such as the religion of your choice. I want to make that very clear. The reason that I recommend the Buddhist teachings is because, the beauty is, you still continue to believe in Christ if you are a Catholic and so on. I believe in Jesus as well. No question. The Buddhist books show us the way we should live, which would only improve your relationship with whatever God it may be that you pray too.
I'd like to hear your views and thoughts. If you have a good read as well, let me know the name of it. I'm looking for a good read.
