A question for MS and the other formed nutricionists

Who here is a formed nutricionist? I am extremely interested in pursuing a career in this area and need some basic guidance. Im 16, have a 3.6gpa, am an entering junior in HS and love anything to do with nutricion. Any info, I grasp, and with great thirst, is learned.

Id like to someday have my own office where people asking for customized diets will come in with their querries and I can provide them with one. Id like to help people with thyroid problems, with insulin problems, with weight gain, and yet still be a bodybuilder.

I am extremely interested in this , enough so I can pursue a career. I think I fit the right profile, always has thirst to know more than the next, always implementing and experimenting what I know, and so I would like some guidance.

What nutrition schools are top notch?
How is nutricion school?
Do you think I fit the right profile?
What guidance can you give me, other than the top 3 questions?

All is greatly appreciated, and if you have any referalls you can refer me to so I can ask questions, all that is extremely appreciated.

Daniel

I think GPA means sh*t, I kicked but in HS too, but once I hit college....parties, girls, pizza, beer...kinda went down. You can do anything you want dude, dont limit yourself. It just a matter of when, not how.

Where do I begin....?????

First off, if you're gonna persue the field, it is spelled nutriTionist not nutricionist...lol...just bustin' your balls man.

I was in the same boat you were when I was coming out of high school. However, I can HONOSTLY say that when it comes to learning more about how the body runs and functions that nutrition courses do not teach you dick! This will also vary on the professor as well, but you better hope they have a strong background in biology, biochemistry, physiology, etc...as these are the course and fields that WILL teach and educate you the most about the body. Nutrition school is basically a "tweener" major. It kind of covers everything from bichem to food science, but you never really grasp either to any great extent. I have had my biochem, physiology, food science, microbiology and I can honostly say that these are the courses I learned most from. Also, it doesn't help if you have some quack nutritionist that is biased towards everything except the RDA and Food guide Pyramid. Then, most of the info you receive is ancient as hell! I have maybe 2-3 nutrition teachers out of a dozen that actually keep up to date with new advances in nutrition and sciences regarding the body....they just happen to have strong biology and chem backgrounds as well.

Private practice can be a good field if you can find the clients. But I must warn you that it would get very old preaching to these people how to eat and only to watch them stop their dieting a week or two into the program. You can't make someone eat healthy, they have to be dedicated on their own. I AM NOT GOING TO SCHOOL TO BE A DAMN BABYSITTER!

Currently, I have a Bsc in nutrition and am 2 semesters away ffrom a food science degree as well. I am going to grad school for a career in Sports nutrition research. I am also planning on getting a biochem degree somewhere along the way so that it educates me more about the body. I'll probably throw an RD certification in their for looks...lol after my next 2 semesters.

Seriously, I would highly recommend learning more on physiology, etc. and getting a grasp of these subjects. Then, once you have this, you can educate yourself on your free time by reading journals. Getting as many physiology and chem books as well as food science books to refer to when reading journals will help you out as well. I probably spend 2-3 hours a day looking over on-line journals for my own benefit...after awhile it gets fun....

This would not be complete without saying that you will learn a lot from these boards as well. My 2 favorites are Elite and Anabolicfitness. Once you learn how to separate the bullshit from the good stuff, these boards are worth their weight in gold. The people I concentrate most on are:

MS, cockdezl, Par Deus, Macro, Huckleberry, Pat Arnold, Lyle McDonald, Wilson6, FONZ, FUKKENSHREDDED, and Mr. X when he is around. There are a lot of newer people over these last couple of months that also provide valuable info as well, and you know who you are. Veterans like Warlobo, Ulter, a lot of the women, Mr. Nobody, etc..also help give their points of view worth taking in as well. I have both MS and cockdezl on my buddy list so that I can view over their posts that they have written on. Then I print out anything valuable...bet ya didn't know that MS...lol. These people have really helped me learn and understand sooo damn much I can't explain in words. Hopefully, I have been able to help a few along the way as well.

Well man, let me know if you have any other questions as I will be happy to provide you with as much info as I can.
