Well, well, well, it looks like absolute hardgainer has finally joined the right-wing, redneck, gun-touting, militia-loving whatever-they're-called and decided to open his mouth in FAVOUR (!!!) of gun ownership.
What is this pink-ass, liberal punk doing on this side of the debate you may wonder...?
Well, consider this:
If all the Jews in Germany would have been gun owners in 1933 how could history possibly have been different?
Add to that, all the communists, socialists, social democrats, unionists, gays, gypsies and other groups who were persecuted by the nazis, they could have certainly done well with a bit more firepower.
How about those Chinese students at Tienamen square? Those AK-47's would surely have been handy then.
The point to this is that: An armed society is a free society - not free from violence and murder, no. BUT, it is free from an oppressive regime that is trying to repress it.
Gun-ownership has an upside and a downside to it. The more guns society has at its disposal the more guns will be used for violence and murder by less desirable elements of that society. At the same time, the more guns a society has at its disposal the less opportunity any government has to effectively oppress its members.
The point in the US constitution about a well-armed and regulated militia has merit and does show that the founders of the USA were concerned about the liberty of its citizens and saw it fit to constitutionally enshrine the rights of these citizens to defend themselves, possibly against the very same government that the founders created.
hardgainer (my two cents)
