A ? about metabolism

as you get older does your metabolism start to slow down. I heard one guy say yes and another say no, was just wondering who was right.
 
when i was 18 i could eat big mac's breakfast lunch and dinner and not gain a lb. but i was also very active with sports...as i hit mid 20's and became less active i started packin it on!.....im 32 now and once again im very active with my training. once i got my bf below 10% i find i dont need to do cardio but maybee 2x's a week and my diet is not as strict... i wont eat big mac's any more, but im even getting leaner...so i gues i really cant answer your question from my experience....in my case i think it has to do with inactivity and bf level!
 
in general, yes. But, there are exceptions to every rule.
How old are you now?
Ever had a complete workup done on your thyroid?
Do either of your parents have thyroid abnormalities?

If you're a teen or in your early/mid 20's I wouldn't worry about it. If you're 28, 29... or up, consider these Q's.
 
From what I understand it does, but it is almost completely due to a loss of lean body mass and activity rather than some inherent aspect of aging.

Right, one of the factors that causes this is that humans begin losing muscle mass around 25. However, if you have gained muslce mass as you aged past 25, your metabolism will actually increase.

Reduced thyroid and hgh output are also factors in this. Many of these thing are not as much of an issue for serious bodybuilders.
