It's been recommended at least as far back as Dan Duchaine and the Underground Steroid Bible, so you are going back at least 20 years. The only things new are the anti-aromatase drugs (Arimidex, Femara, Aromasin) that were not on the market until recently. hGH (recombinant) and Clen go back more than 10 years. Youngsters!
Yes,clomid is used to restore one's endogenous production of GnRH,L/H,and testosterone.It does so by blocking off estrogen receptors in the hypothalamus and pituitary.The illusion of low E causes the glands to churn out more of their respected catalystic hormones in to raise the testosterone levels high enough to induce aromitase into bringing the estrogen populations back into homeostatic(normal)levels.

Not really,as all steroids possess some ANDROGENIC tendencies and influence on natural hormonal balance,and androgen excess will create inhibition as well.One easier way to recover though is to use the highly anabolic,low androgenic profiled steroids(Primo and var come to mind)or to run an anti-aromitase such as liquidex or femara DURING cycle,so that you're mostly being inhibited through androgenic pathways instead of both androgenic/estrogenic pathways.Recovery is definitely faster for most post cycle.

Here´s some recent and SPECIFIC evidence, although is only 1 subject.Use of clomiphene citrate to reverse premature andropause secondary to steroid abuse.

OBJECTIVE: To report a case of symptomatic hypogonadism induced by the abuse of multiple steroid preparations that was subsequently reversed by clomiphene. DESIGN: Case report. SETTING: University-affiliated andrology practice within family practice clinic. PATIENT(S): A 30-year-old male. INTERVENTION(S): Clomiphene citrate, 100-mg challenge for 5 days, followed by treatment at same dose for 2 months. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURE(S): Clinical symptoms, androgen decline in aging male questionnaire, total T, FSH, LH. RESULT(S): Reversal of symptoms, normalization of T levels with LH surge, restoration of pituitary-gonadal axis. CONCLUSION(S): Clomiphene citrate is used typically in helping to restore fertility in females. This represents the first case report of the successful use of clomiphene to restore T levels and the pituitary-gonadal axis in a male patient. The axis was previously shut off with multiple anabolic steroid abuse.
