There better not be a lockout, I don't think I could survive a season of basketball only. Maybe they will televise curling?

It is inevitable that countries with larger populations will come out at the top of this list. But if you work it out as I said you get to see just how gifted the average citizen of a country is relative to citizens of other countries.........

LOL@ Loser math
Among the many problems with your theory are the following.
Each nations is given an equal number of spots with which to represent themselves in the competition, not one proportionally based on population size.
At best population size represents an increased potetnial pool from which to draw, which is a single and not predominant factor in a nations success. Of far more importance is the Olympic organization in a country, the quality of their program and coaches, and even more important the quality of their sports programs related to the events in the Olympics in their schools, kids programs etc. Which is why wealthier countries generally do better in these competitions. The exceptions have been some of the communist nations which put a disproportionate amount of their national wealth into discovering and training athletes for propoganda purposes
V-Machine said:LOL...........yeeeaaaahhhhhh right!!! It is logical that population size would have an immense impact on Olympic performance; more chance of there being a gifted athlete in there. The number of spots per nation is irrelevant..
Your post sounds like somebody who is afraid to admit that they are anything but the best..............
JerseyArt said:Bor, I don't need to justify anything. We won, you are the guy trying to manufacture reasons why his country didn't.
Seperately, your reasoning is flawed, and I pointed out two of many reasons why. By your analysis Chinese and Indians are the least physically gifted people in the world. It's absurd.
I acknowledged that theoretically a larger population pool provides more chances of producing a top athlete. But that is simply a fraction of what determines success in these competitions. For one thing, for that analysis to be correct, everyone in that population would have had to had equal access to training, coaching etc. One country has a million people, and another country has 5 million people. In the first country 60% of all children are tested and given training for Olympic sports, but in country B only 10% are, how would a victory by country A equal any evidence that its general population was any more talented than the other. That is a single fly in your theoretical sample.
Another is that the US has a strong market driven number of diverse thriving professional sports. Many of our superior athletes train exclusively for sports like football or basketball, and are often disqualified by time or financial interests from pursuing any other endeavors. Those are the ones that actually make it to the pros (which isnt strictly based on strength or speed) So behind them are hundreds of thousands of youths who trained in those sports, instead of Olympic events, only not to make the final cut. There are any number of 4.3-4.3 40 timed runners who never learned to catch well enough to pursue or achieve a football career, but who might have made incredible track and field stars.

BOTTOMLINE: The UK has more medal winners per 100,000 citizens than the USA. Therefore, as a country we are more gifted. Oh and Germany are even better.......
Just saying what the rest of the world already knew.
MAX 300 said:Ahem
Australia held itself pretty well all things considered.
We got beaten in the medal tally again by the US, China and Russia. Three countries with superpower, emerging superpower, former superpower status - as well as a shitload more people than our country. And we beat Germany, Japan, France, Italy and England in the medal count.
17 gold medals ain't too shabby for a country with 20 million people.

China will wipe the floor with us next time.
Just a matter of years before China replaces the US is so many areas. Might teach us humility and we may ve able to use that. Some of us anyways.![]()
DEEZPAZ said:Yeah but the UK and Germany will still be superior b/c they have more medals winners per 100,000 population!!! LOL
What a dork!!
Keep crunching the numbers bro and I'll look at the total column and see the US at the top every time...
I guess if thats what helps your national pride then its a good thing... Maybe we should contact the Olympic committee and have them change the standings around to reflect your corny little equation!!!![]()

DEEZPAZ said:Every country hates us anyway so whats the point in trying to be diplomatic and pussy foot around...
If I gave you clear concise answers would that have changed your mind about the US and the Olympics... Doubt it...
So why not be over the top and fit right into the stereotype that you think of us... It really doesn't matter to me either way b/c the standings speak for themselves and thats what people look at...
V-Machine said:LMFAO.........so great it cant even elect a president fairly. I soooooo wish I was american..............
V-Machine said:LMAO I cant believe you just wrote that. BTW the standings dont speak for themselves without further interpretation........but I know you wont listen because americans are always right...........right?
