youre lucky they didnt follow the book to a tee . Granted it can be a little boring but im just fascinated that someone wrote something that has so much culture and history yet it didnt even happen. I mean he has apendicees written that are like 500 pages long ( all of which ive read:D )

To be honest with you, I'm not sure I'm going to be able to talk to you anyomre. That's pretty out there man. Do you have an extensive collection of Star Wars memoribilia? I'd feel much better if you got shot or something.

Actually my plan is to take 1 morphine, 1 40 mg OC, and a tablespoon of liquid hydrocodone, of course I will bring some backup for during. I might step to have a smoke or two.

2 weeks until you get to publicly display your overpowering nerdishness.

ok i might be in denial here but i really thought that this was a cherished tale of the times. I mean it has an avid following no? or do you guys really think that we (i am included i guess) are geeks.
at the least it is a very entertaining movie( the first one ) and the second is going to be awesome.

WEll, if it is anything like the books... it gets more exciting as it goes along... The Return of the King should be the best of all three if that is the case.

Yes, The Two Towers does look exciting. Did anyone see the special on the other night? Legolas is bad-ass!
My husband saw the first one 12x in the theatre not to mention the 2 versions of the DVD we have at home!
We named one of our cats Strider.

Mmmm, that Strider:p

It would be better if you could make the fire move.

if i could i would....that would certainly make a good focal point when high off of _______ <-- insert preferred recreational drug here.

well im a huge fan of the books, ive probly read every one of his books at least 15 times each...and i hated the first movie. I think I would have enjoyed it a lot more had I never read the books. When I watched the movie, I basically tore it apart in my mind which ruined the whole experience. I know I'm probably not gonna like the next two either, but I'll be there opening day anyways, just out of curiousity. Peter Jackson mutilated the fellowship..I expect the same for two towers.

You are not the only one who thinks that but honestly think about it....the book does not translate into a total 9 hour movie if one were to follow the exact book. In fact it would make quite a boring movie if we had to watch every time Sam and Frodo have to sit down and eat some "lembas".

In order to make it an entertaining film Jackson had to emphasize the more heroic aspects of the book like battle scenes (where Tolkien spends the least of his time describing in his books i.e. the battle where boromir dies is like only 400 words long in comparison to his description of the Council of Elrond which is like a 40 page chapter). Face it, to the general public that is what is more entertaining.

Yep, I realize all this... and I guess its just the way I am, I cant help but compare every scene in the movie to what happend in the book, and then tear it apart..still though, there were parts that they cut out/changed in the movie that really didnt need to be...things like that really annoyed me.

I've not read the books, but "Fellowship" was awesome. And the part where Boromir dies...I just don't know if words in a book can evoke the same feeling of awe when I watched that scene. I'm not putting the movie above the book or anything like that, but I believe in some instances, images on screen are more powerful than words in a book.

read the book...you'll be surprised. I thought the boromir scene was one of the worst ones...right after the gandalf/saruman scene and the mines of moria.

hey i never said it wasnt a powerful scene. I was just saying to strangebrew, who has read the book many times as i have and seems to be rather pissed that the movie isnt staying true to the literature, that there are reasons why in the movie there is more emphasis on these scenes. They are very entertaining.

strangebrew is right......the book and the movie are two totally different things,,,,but thats okay IMO. (reasons stated above)

Let me preface this post by saying that I have only read "Fellowship..." just picked up "Two Towers". Have a rule of reading books prior to there cinematic debut as they often change on screen (good, bad, or otherwise).

I have to say that I loved "Fellowship...", was it different from the book?? Yes. But the better question is "Was it an entertaining movie?" Hell Yes!!! Keep in mind that it ran 3 hours, it's hard to keep an audiences attention for that long. For those that read the book, just think how long it took you to read the section that is "The Fellowship..". Plus we get two more installments that are at least that long.

One more question, and I ask this with total sincerity (and a little bit of ingnorance as I've only read the first part), but did anyone else notice the homosexual overtones between Frodo Baggins and Samwise Gamgee in the movie that didn't exist in the book?

Oh, by the way, Aragorn if you want a long read pick up Robery Jordan's "Eye of the World " series it's in it's tenth volume and probably around 14,000 soft cover pages. With at least another two volumes to come, if not more.

i read up to #8 of the robert jordan books years ago...I enjoyed them at the time but honestly they really wern't that great. I dont read fantasy books anymore mainly because the ones today get turned into romance novels. The wheel of time was definetely not an exception..

Pebcak--> ill try those books out if you say they're a good read.

Also regarding the homoerotic undertones just wait till you read the second and third "books" my friend......let me tell you that its been debated for a long time.....i think its just two good buddies that enjoy each others company.....honestly hobbits are just really "merry" people i guess. Plus you'll find out why Sam isnt gay in the end of the book.

BigA,

Just started The Two Towers this afternoon, I'll reserve further judgement until I'm done with the entire "trilogy"/"Book". I'll take your word, I just didn't get the same feelings from the book that I thought the movie pushed on you. Though, as I said before it was still a killer flick.

As I said pick up "The Eye of the World" series. It took me about 20 chapters into the fist book and I've been hooked ever since. If your into the fantasy fiction realm then it's a must read like Dune, The Belgariad, The Sword of Shanara (and LotR as well).
