2 Thick... Starship Troopers question.

I read on the matrix thread that you say this movie has some deeper meaning beyond its obvious crappiness.

What do you say the deeper meaning is?

I was very surprised to hear you say something good about this movie.

2Thick was probably referring to the type of facist government they had: you have to have served in the military to become a citizen, etc etc.

i loved it. the dark humor was fantastic!

I thought the movie was quite stupid... the whole thing made no sense. This is the future and human kind has these great ships...

AND YET

Their guns are possibly worse than the ones soldiers now use... and more importantly, there is 0 artillery or tanks or any mechanized equipment of anykind on the ground. Obviously in the future we'd have this equipment, and somehow i cant see a bug doing very well against a tank.

yup, the news espeically was also similar to a fascist (dare I say Nazi) style government.

Yeah i noticed that as well... it played such a minimal role in the movie though... they hardly even touched on it. It was much more about the pathetic war scenes.

+'s
Lots of blood, dismemberment and flying Bug Goop
A couple of Hot nude scenes

I'd like to see any of the "Hammers Slammers" book series made into a movie.

That or the book "Forever War"

I'm trying to recall an essay on the movie I once read, it was pretty good at linking fascism with the movie. Apparently the author of the book that led to the movie was a hardcore anti communist and portrayed the bugs hive like mentality to communism.

Also, the "news" was basically the type of propoganda that was used by the germans during world war 2. Try and watch "The Eternal Jew" made by a nazi filmmaker during 1938 I believe.

Hmmm... interesting.

Tehre is a book that the movie is based on by Robert Heinlein (sp?) and it is full of the social criticism referreed to i n teh movie--the movie was a dumming down of the book but both were great

Exactly. No aircraft, missles, grenades, rockets, armored vehicles. WTF?

The first time I saw it I simply asked: why not nuke or carpet bomb the whole planet? Then I realized that a 20 minute movie wouldnt make much money.

The only Heinlein book I ever read was Stranger in a Strange Land (for an English class), but it was a good one.

they did have that carpet bomb scene after trying a land
invasion failed.

most of the deaths appeared to be from trauma that would have been elliminated using armor

Not true. It was easier whenever a main, good-looking character was in danger.:)

how is it fascist to be required to serve
in the military to obtain full citizenship???

the swiss are fascists???:p

I remember seeing this movie in the theater and the plot holes weren't so apparent as if you get to sit and think about it at home.
The crowd loved it, and the 12 year old boy in the seat beside me got quite agitated at the end.
He jumped up and exclaimed:
"God, I just want to go out and KILL something!"

Wasn't there supposed to be a sequel ?

I was all about the "Roughnek" attitude.

"Everyone fights, noone quits. If you don't do your job, I'll kill you myself."

Yea, but have you ever seen Starship Troopers "On Weed" LOL I love that part of Half Baked
