    Ironmaster is on the money and probable cause is needed to justify a search warrant and yes the word of a rat is good enough. The reason for the controlled buys is in some jurisdictions that can be used to charge you with sale which is a more serious charge as opposed to possesion.

    The guy who said once you give consent to search, you're fucked is wrong. You can tell them to stop anytime and tell them to leave your home and it would help if a neighbor could hear you so they can be a witness to this. Also you should never give consent to a search of anything(home, car, person).
