Amino acids certainly have calories and can be used as energy (especially during low carb/low energy diet). Read my recent (2002) paper on protein metabolism etc.:

Where is the news flash?! ;) Vitargo was introduced by Swedish scientists several years ago. There is no evidence suggesting that it is more effective in creatine loading than maltodextrin or glucose/dextrose.
