Im taking this week off. I jst sat back last night and noticed my poundages are down, reps down, I wake up in the middle of the night. My chiins are getting worse. I never really scheduled a layoff so Im going to try it. Does this sound like overtraining? I go 3 on 1 off. Im in ok shape but am not making the progress I should see, I feel tired alot, stale. I just feel guilty not going in. Any suggestions?

my rep scheme.

Some signs of overtraining:

Joint pain
regression (lifts going down, not up)
Trouble sleeping
Anxiety
Loss of appetite
Loss of motivation.

I would take a week off, then come back a little slowly. maybe start off at 85% of your current best lifts, and progress from there.

A week off will not hurt you at all. It just may help you.

Now if I can take my own advice.

By taking a week off, your muscles can fully recover. There's even a good chance that you will be stronger when you go back to it. You have classic signs of overtraining and a week off will probably do you a world of good. When you do get back to it, come back a little slower. Like someone else suggested, you might have to change your rep scheme or you might have to change your whole workout. If you find out that that is the case and if you need some help with it, let us know. We are here to help!

your are most likely overtrained....like veryone said just take some time off...eat a lot of protien during this week...when you get back...

make it either 3 on 2 off or some ratio like that...you shouldnt work out more than 4-5 times per week (at the most)...you need more rest...also check up on your diet...are you consistant??..are you healthy enough...

goos luck

About 3 months ago, I was severely overtraining. I didn't even have a split. I worked my whole body 4-5 times a week usually for about 3 hours (sometimes more). I was feeling so burnt out and I wasn't making good gains anymore, i had trouble sleeping. I think I just did this cuz I was stressed out and working out was the only way I could relieve it. Then one day I slapped myself in the face. I took a week off to develope a sensible program. I read up, asked questions and stuff. Then I went back to it much more confident. My lifts were up and I felt much better. So yah, take time to think and it'll go great.

I agree with everything everyone said. Don't worry about taking time off you WILL be stronger when you get back. I take a week off every 2 months.

Dude, you might even overtrain on a 2 days on, 1 day off split! The reason being is that lifting of any kind puts a lot of stress on the nervous system. The best way to not overtrain is to not lift 2 days in a row (assuming you are natural). I assume you lift heavy every session (if you don't than stay at home), which means your nervous system doesn't care that yesterday was chest day and today you're hitting legs. I honestly believe that 3 days per week, 4 tops, is best for a natural lifter. If you produce maximum intensity in the gym, that's all you should be able to handle.
