I recently started doing squats again. I have started light, but my low back is killing me now.

I don't want to give up doing them because they are so good for the butt. So please any suggestions could help.

Nope, never back pain of any kind.

It seems there must be a way I can stand to lessen pressure put on my low back, but i'm not sure what that is.

I have a weight belt that I have never used.
Do most women use them? How tight should it be?

I am 5'2 115lbs.

You can use a wt belt, keep it tight. Its very impt to keep your back straightand look up to the sky. This helps with yur form. I struggled with form for a long time b/c I am 6 ft . Use light wt until you have the correct form. Maybe get somone that you know has good form watch you to make sure you are in the correct position. I wouldn,t give it up, nothing is beteer than a good squat day!!!!!!!!!!

You may be leaning too far forward. Either that or your lower back felxibility needs work. Several ways you can test this are:

Try squatting with some small 'lifts' under your heels ( a couple of 5 lb weights, or a strip of tire tread should do).

Try front squats- this is where you hold the bar across the top of your chest instead of on your traps

Try squatting in a Smith Machine

If you can do any/all of these squats without pain in your back then your problem is likely a technique problem (leaning too far forward). If your back still hurts, then you may need to work on flexibility more.

Believe it or not I was diagnosed with a degenerative disk disease in the lower spine(total bummer) so I did a bunch of d-bol and worked on my back among other things and guess what? No more pain or anything, I'm squatting and lifting fine. Hey, d-bol worked for that. I'm off AS for a bit to clean out and the back is fine.

Keep the form very strict, with good alignment to the spine. don't start to heavy , work your way up very slowley.
On exercise to help strengthen the back is hyper-extensionsfor the lower back.

You should have someone video tape you squating(lifting) from different angles you would be amazed the difference that perspective would make in helping you grasp proper form.
