Ladies et al...

My girl has just started some Primo (100mg/week) and has just come off of winnie tabs (8mg/day).

She is getting some acne on her face and was wondering what you ladies use to prevent this?...what over the counter stuff is there that you recommend for women's face?

The best I've tried is ProActive Solution - they sell it over the tv. Also Serious Skin Care products sold on HSN. Most OTC stuff tears up my skin.

I've also heard that ProActive stuff really works. I've never used it-but my aunt had SERIOUS adult onset acne and it cleared hers up in a short time. Tell her not to use OTC stuff as it will dry up her skin and actually make it more irritated. I've also read in several magazines-and have heard from my dermatologist, that Ivory soap is one of the best, as it doesn't have all the perfumes and crap that others have. She also needs a good oil-free moisturizer (fragrance-free too).

I would stay away from the infomercial stuff and anything heavily perfumed. You can try one of 2 things: The body Shop sells tea tree oil soap which works well, or I use Cetaphil. You should tell her its very possible that she is overwashing her face depending on what sh eis doing now. Cetaphil is very gentle and won't dry her skin out. Also make sure she is drinking plenty of water as that helps keep skin healthy and acne free!

here is my .02

i tried a lot of OTC meds, but as usual they tend to dry out my skin too much. burning, dry feeling which cannot be good for anybody's skin. does she wash her face with anything special daily? Clinique, este lauder, anything?

i wash morning and night with clinique. face looks good (i have the same problem with primo.) clinique also has this special acne med out right now that is supposed to work extremly well. i have not tried it though.

as far as derm. med from the doctor i was put on BIAXIN XL, which sucks unless you enjoy yeast infections and no results. the best though is what i use now called Erythromycin Topical Solution USP 2%. put it on when you see a pimple and immediatly it is gone.

if her acne is getting bad she might want to go see a dermatologist. it is worth the money considering the amount she might spend at target for OTC meds.

I haven't experienced acne complications, but here goes: maybe try some sort of topical spironolactone (ie. ground-up tabs in solution) along with the antibiotic?

SAVE YOURSELF ALOT OF TIME AND SEE A DERMATOLOGIST FOR A SCRIPT OF RETIN A OR RENOVA. TIS WILL CLEAR UP THE ACNE AND PREVENT IT FROM COMING BACK. MAKE SURE ITS A LOW DOSE 25% BECAUSE IT DOES CAUSE SOME DRYNESS. THERES NOTHING WORSE THEN ANOTHER SIDE EFFECT FROM A CYCLE,ESPECIALLY ACNE.

I have acne problems tooo, and found that the ONLY solution was to take antibiotics like mynacin from the doctor and apply a topical solution from the doctor as well, at night to the affected areas, like erythromycin gel. At one time, it was so bad, i was put on acutane, but now ehn I flare up, I just take an antibiotic.
