Recently a trainer at the gym asked me what I was eating. After rambling off the full menu. I was told I was eating entirely too much protein. (I never asked for his advice anyway.) I was always taught that one to two grams of protein per pound of lean body mass was acceptable. I weigh 144 now and am about 15% bodyfat. Accordingly, I eat about 170 grams of protein. Am I way off?

I just read what skydancer eats and forget it. Evidently 170 give or take is not too much. Probably not enough....

hehe...its a lot...but has been suggested to me to intake 1.5-2g per pound of body weight...Though I am wondering, as my weight drops do I drop the protein intake too? Then I would lose needed calories...any thoughts?

Well, if we take the advice of 1.5-2 grams per pound of lean body mass then the protein would probably still not change. (I'm far from any expert so take anything I say with a grain of salt) but you wouldn't be losing any muscle if you're dieting properly anyway. The whole idea is to support the muscle and leave room for growth and use up the remaining fat stores. Sounds like your doing that.

rptchick, you are absolutely right it does not change when you lose bodyfat. and 170 is not to much don't let this guys tell you different my training partner eats 400grams a day and she weighs 173lbs @11% and growing. just remember if you are lowing your carbs and fat to lower your bodyfat.you need to add more protein....SAMM

Yeah i had a trainer at my gym come up to me and say the same shit. when i asked him where he got his information he answered some kinda books written for "Normal" people, you know, not the ones that wants to build MORE muscles, just for those who wants to keep fit. somehow thay cant undrstand that in order to grow, you must consume more than your regulare joe....
