Gosh, this is one I know from experience......many things to consider. My first response is YOU HAVE TO BE PREPARED MENTALLY. This is so mportant because not only will your body change over the pre-contest preparation period, but also it will change to other people, i.e. spouse. My husband was such a positive motivator & was critiquing me, too. While others were saying, i.e. "I can't believe you put yourself through this...", I'd just smile and say it's what I like to do. The next thing to consider is HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO PREPARE YOUR BODY? (This comes from experience.) Everyone is different - some people it takes 12 wks., some 16 wks. (me? about 8-9 wks.) DIET is something to consider. Write everything down i.e. journal. This helps for competing at other times if desired, and to see why you might have not done as well eating certain things, i.e. Of course, TRAINING/CARDIO is a factor. Another tuffie as everyone's different. Read magazines and talk to other competitors. This is really important. They pass along tips & techniques to help out. There's SO MUCH I could say, but don't want to take up to much of the board. Hope some of this helps. Good luck to your wife! I think FITNESS is my life sometimes!

Almost forgot.....when writing in journal, write down thoughts & feelings for the day. Sometimes I look back to an entry and if I was sick that day or left the gym early because of feeling sick, then I know why I didn't complete a workout, etc. Also, don't believe everything written. What works for some people doesn't always work for others.
