i was wondering haow long it takes before flax goes bad. i know that it starts to smell rancid after a while, but the smell starts off very mild when it first starts roting, then eventually just smells like disinfectant. i keep it refrigerated, but im worried about the possible negative effect flax could posses if it was ingested after it went bad. I think it's 3-4 months from the time it was actually pressed. You have to be careful with oils. They are so damn volatile. Sensitive to heat, light, they gotta be packaged and shipped properly, etc...unless you're there every step of the way, it's a risk. I think liquid is the best form, but I have gotten some bad flax oil twice and it is not a pretty scene. Projectile vomiting. You might as well swallow a bottle of free radicals. The only thing I do now is if it smells even a little "off" or has that nasty aftertaste - it's in the trash. I've had better luck with the gelcaps. They're not as sensitive to all of the above. ------------------ IP: Logged |

Buy some BHT from Beyond-A-Century.com, it is a fat soluble antioxidant and will prolong the life of your oils. Very cheap. IP: Logged |

Freezing it increases shelf life, too. ------------------ IP: Logged |
