How many Watts does a regular desktop computer use?

it varies greatly. you need to get one of those little $30 dollar watt meters you plug into the wall and monitor what it is sucking if you really want to know

I live in a big house with friends and the "jew" (he isnt, but its a nice anti-pc nickname for the bill-handler) keeps telling me to reduce energy use since that price went up and i was wondering about the breakdown of elec use in a household.

I basically light my room with only 75 Watts (bright economy lamps) just cuz they dont break as often and he keeps telling me to remember to turn them off when I leave my room for a moment. its nonsense. its 10 cents for a KiloWatthour of electricity. So i leave those on unnecessarily for an hour it costs us 0.075x0.1 euro = roughly one cent. I dont bend my knees for that, let alone develop the habit of turning them off everytime i wander elsewhere in the house. I really had no idea of elec prices before today. He got me believing it mattered for lights.

washing machines and warming a pool and ovens and dryers and vacuums are probably bitches.

cpu = roughly 100-175 watts
new video card = 150-200+ watts
old video card = 50 watts?
hard disk 30 watts
19" CRT monitor = 100 watts
19" LCD monitor 30 watts

I got 17 " LCD 30
old vid card 50
strong CPU 170
2 harddrives 60

at most 260 Watts total.
meaning it costs like 0.260x0.1 euro per hour on elec

friggin 3 cents an hour

I cant believe people bother with saving electricity!

things that suck lots of juice include: fridge, dryer, oven, electric heat, air conditioning, hair dryers, microwaves, game stations, like ps2, xbox, and the older the game system the more they suck juice. they have efficient light bulbs that last a looong time now and also use very litte watts, between 5-20 watts.

how many people live in your house?
