are you being warned to prepare for bio/chem/nuke attacks?

our local radio stations have been running warnings non-stop. they are instructing people to have plastic sheets and duct tape to cover windows/doors in case of a terrorist attack. my friend in a different state has been hearing the same thing

have any of you been hearing these?

i know the news has been reporting it, but i find it odd that they would put out something as specific as this, an actually give people instructions regarding it. we have all heard of possible ways terrorists can attack, but this seems to be being pushed quite hard and often. well, here atleast.

either which way, it's fucked.

I have 34 fucking windows and several doors leading outside. Plus, I have a basement that is like a cellar and can crawl under the house if I need to. I also have many foundation vents.

I have no plans of trying to cover all of these openings if we are attacked.

I also got a notice in the mail the other day about my insurance premiums. Seems insurers decided to delete terrorism coverage from our policies after the 9/11 attacks and started charging for this coverage. Now that the insurance commission has reviewed these changes, they are reinstating coverage and not charging extra for it.

Wow....I feel so much safer now.

LOL! plastic sheets and duct tape won't do shit.

...sounds like more fear-mongering propaganda to make people buy into the shit being pushed by the Bush administration.

there's no way in hell my homeowners association would let me cover my windows with plastic sheets.

:lmao:

Don't you just love HOA's, never again will I buy with one in place!

I'm in Virginia and I went to Home Depot to buy landscaping stuff ... about 40 people had duct tape and plastic sheeting in their carts. It may not work, but it's good for the economy, I guess.

I live in northern va also, and people here are notorious for over reacting. Take for example anytime is snows, people mob the grocery store before the a flake hits the ground. And don't get me started on the whole sniper thing.

It's called "The Bush Administration Economic Stimulus Package"

If it's my time to go, then fuck it.

No duct tape or plastic sheets is gonna help if it's my time to meditate with the bodhisattva.

Not to take away from the serious of the thread topic, because it is indeed very serious and also sad, however, there are some really funny responses here.

I agree that duct tape and plastic is a joke and anyone believing that it will help has to be some kind of moron.

First of all, let's say it's a dirty bomb and radioactive material or dust and it is spread out all over the outside of your house. Even if you're inside with everything taped up  then you better plan on staying in there for a VERY long time or until someone comes along to clean up the oustide of your house (which isn't going to happen) because the radioactive material will still be out there waiting for you when you do go out. Duh!

If it's an airborn bio-attack...well...then I sure hope people aren't dumb enough to think duct tape and plactic wrap will help them.

Your best bet is to just get the hell out of where ever the attack occurs and hope it can be contained with as minimal loss of life as possible.

Speed and effectiveness of containment are the key to minimal loss of life, period.

The news in my area has been saying that we should have a designated "safe room" in the house and go there if something happens.

Lucky me I SPECIFICALLY ordered the construction crew to make the walls, floor, and ceiling of my room out of lead. I will be safe from all radiation. Were your homes built with lead rooms? If not, I think you should consider a class action lawsuit.

I can imagine the lines at the supermarket now. Oh no it's the end of the world - let's buy all the bread and water we can.

Isn't it a little bit irresponsible of the media to worry the public so much when they know for a fact the public can do nothing in the event of a biological terrorist attack or one involving a weapon of mass destruction - ESPECIALLY when the target(s) (if any) are unknown?

that doesn't sound like a very good idea. superman won't be able to see if you're trapped in your room or not.

I was watching those fools last night on TV. They were in NE DC at the Home Depot and Giant, buying up all sorts of stuff to supposedly make them "safe".

I have a news flash for these people. If you are close enough to buy your gear at these stores in DC, then you are still too close to DC to escape harm.

My house is about 10 blocks away from the capitol building. If anything happens, I plan go up to my roof with a lawn chair and a pitcher of margaritas, and watch Rome burn as I get wasted. :martini: :drink2: :havoc:

duh stupid! Why do you think I have a big red button on my desk? When I push it my "HEY SUPERMAN. THERE ARE PEOPLE TRAPPED IN HERE - PLEASE HELP" neon sign turns on outside. It is connected to the special warp core I have installed under my house so that it can operate for over a zillion years. Much more efficient than batteries.

great times we live in eh? the media stirring people into a frenzy and always having to worry about terrorist attacks.
