leg press on smith

I saw a guy last night doing leg presses on a smith machine, laying flat on his back, feet on the bar pressing up. Anyone else do this, or is it really as ridiculous as it looked? Seems like that would be tough on the lower back, and your feet. I gotta hand it to the guy, though, he did have 6 plates on each side, and hit about 15 reps. I'm thinking maybe he lost a bet or was maybe just screwing around, trying something different.

It really is just as ridiculous as it looked.

lol, that guy was successful in combining two of the most unfunctional exercises in the book into one great, big waste of gym time.

If I can convince just one person, I feel fulfilled ,lol

It's amazing to me the amount of people that use that smith machine for squats, or anything for that matter. Every time I see somebody setting it up, then getting into position, I feel for them. The first time I ever did squats, I used one. It just didn't feel right, my body doesn't move that way.

I was box squatting on Monday and peered over to see a poor soul DEADLIFTING with the Smith Machine. He started up a conversation and asked about my routine. When he learned that I deadlift he asked if I think it's better to do it with freeweights or with the Smith. It was a really tough question so I thought I'd ask all of your advice before I answered him.

Just plain ridiculous. I have two at my gym that are broken down at the moment, divine intervention IMO, you would have thought every "trainers" workout regime is now ruined.

its funny, the gym I lift at right now has both of the smith machines broken down and it takes them months to get things fixed. I was talking to a guy who was saying he cant do his benches now! I talked him into doing free weight benches and hes loving it now. Wish they would toss out those stupid machines and bring in 2 more power racks.
