elitefitness members: Privacy Alert!

Warning: to people who use avatars or signatures with an image hosted from a site outside elitefitness.com

If your intention is to remain anonymous on this board, you may be giving yourself away with that avatar image hosted from your private website based on www.yourname.com. Here's how.

In elitefitness, all one has to do is right-click your avatar picture to look up the URL of your Web site. Then, it's possible to look up the administrative contact information associated with your Web domain. If you registered your domain using your name, home address and phone number, then that information is all publicly available! Anyone can do a whois on any domain.

My advice to those who wish to remain anonymous: upload your avatar and signature images to elitefitness or to a public image hosting Web site which holds your contact and account information securely. Avoid hosting images from your private web site.

I intentionally put this in the steroids forum because those folks are the ones who are most likely to want to remain anonymous. This was moved to the "chat and conversation" forum. One concern I have about that is bro's discussing steroids are less likely to see this warning with it tucked away in a quiet corner of the board like that.

Windows has so many back doors that we have no hope for privacy anyway.

Everytime I turn on the internet, I figure I have let some "folks" into the living room...with cameras and tape recorders.

Having very little freedom just takes some adjustment is all.

We have had 4 years to adjust.

So if you have not adjusted...you are slow.

Hah! It's not common sense to those of us who are e tarded. When you talk about domain, are you refering to my internet connection wiith my ISP? So, are you also saying, that if I take pictures from my C drive to upload to the EF servers for my avi, I am providng others with a path to my home?

If you upload a picture to elitefitness, you are not leaving an obvious path to your computer. It's when you post a *link* to a picture hosted from a Web site that is under your control that is leaving you exposed.

haha! 127.0.0.1 is the localhost loopback IP of every computer. To get your real external IP, open a DOS window and type ipconfig. Or, you might need to log into your router and ask it, or do a tracert.

But then, you probably knew that and were just teasing me... ;-)
