I have an ass but theres some excess fat to it that I'd like to get rid of. If I go deeper when I squat should that help in turning it to muscle, givin me that "junk in the trunk" look?

I have always gone all the way! Anyone who thinks it's bad can think what the want. The way I see it; the deeper, the better.

I just read that doin squats deeo doesn't hurt your knees anymore than goin parallel unless you have a cartlidge problem in your knees.

It should help, going below parallel works the hamstrings and glutes. I wouldn't advise going ass-to-the-floor, though. Months of squatting like that for 4-6 reps screwed up my hips.

before squats where called squats people reffered to them as "deep knee bends".
when done with perfect form in the atf motion they are the most effective mass exercise bar none.you can build a massive muscular lower body with squats alone.the only reason anyone should get injured performing squats is bad form.i have been squatting heavy for years and did not even get a single discomfort anywhere in my lower body.i suggest you start light and learn flawless form before you attempt to squat heavy or even moderately heavy..
peace....

how fitting, just got back from doing legs.
ass to the floor tonight. had to lighten up a bit, normally i go to a bit below parallel, but decided to hit it "in the hole" instead. wow, much better. funny how people look at you when you are going all the way down. like they know they should do it that way but just dont ever do it.

definitely do squats, foundation for all lower body work. i need/have energy for squats, lunges or hack squats and leg extensions (for quads). if i do any more and ill forget my name for a while hehe.

Peace!Nate out.

First, you can't turn fat into muscle. To lose the fat, do cardio and control your diet. To build up your glutes/hips/legs do squats and more squats and even more squats!

Not many people do these but they hit the ass. do weighted lunges. I personally go parallel on normal squats. I would fall if I went down further I've tried it. but conversly I can go very deep when I do front squats.

I find (for me) that the Dumbbell lunges hit my butt a lot better than the squats do. As mentioned previously fat does not turn into muscle. By tightening up the area it may appear smaller, but the only way to get rid of the fat is cardio/calorie reduction.
