As a result of the ever-present boredom of my current job, I have been considering a new kind of employment. My college's fitness center employs students who are certified trainers, and I was wondering if anyone who is currently a personal trainer can provide me with some information to help me out.

I am willing to take the time to get myself certified, but I want to know completely what I am getting myself into first.

How much money would I expect to spend total before I could walk into a gym and find a job? How hard would it be for a 19 year old to find his first PT job? How's the pay? How difficult is it to get clients? How difficult is the job? With which organization do you recommend I seek certification? How long does it take to get certified?

Sorry for the slew of questions, but hey, if you want to know, you've got to ask. I've been lifting for a few years and reading as much on the subject as I can, and I think I would really enjoy doing my part to de-fattenize the world. =) Anyone who knows, please help me out or point me in the right direction.

Thanks,
-Warik

I'll help you out buddy. I am 18 and a certified personal trainer. It costs 645.00 bucks to get certified with ISSA. There is a potential to make pretty decent money. I work at a country/sports club. I started there working as a person behind the front desk, then when i got my certification i started training. The clients come to you. And if they like you they will hook you up with stuuf from their business. Just o let ou know,i took a glimpse at the head trainer's tax form, he made 105,000 bucks last year. That's damn good for a trainer.

varies from club to club. depends if you are on payroll or if you are just contracted to train people there.
im certified but i would never make a career of it unless i was more than just certified (degreed). too cutthroat of a business. people want credentials foremost, then you have to watch exactly what you say to them or have them do for fear of legal ramifications.
good luck if you decide to do it.
