If weightlifting increases muscle mass and increased muscle mass raises your metabolism then why bother doing cardio?

I just started lifting again after a long layoff and I am currently training each muscle group twice a week with NO cardio. My own personal experience tells me that doing cardio has never been beneficial for increasing muscle mass.

Besides, I get a better rush after 1 set of squats than 30 "balls to the wall" minutes on the stairmill.

Those muscles wont look good when you're 6 feet under cause your heart went. Cardio strengthens the heart. Without a good heart, those muscles wont mean much if you're dead and noone gets to see them.

cardio strengthens your heart, allowing you to live longer; and also helps to overload your muscles with blood faster for really heavy sets. you should do both.

Cardio is very important. It helps minimize body fat so you can see your muscles.

I do very little cardio also but I am realizing that a bit each week can be very beneficial. It keeps your internal organs in healthy shape. Even if you only do 1 hour every week it is better than none.

If you want large protruding veins, cardio will enlarge them.

Actually neuromuscularman....ur right on the money. Cardio is good for you but it wont add mass to ya.

And for the other guys saying that cardio is the only thing thats going to work ur heart....hello???...dont u guys train hard at all? My heart is racing so damn fast after a workout...and I dont do cardio at all except at contest time. And after a set of squats, I can barley breathe b/c my heart is pumping so fast.

Working out also burns fat just as well as any cardio you do.

dude, just stick with what ur doing...and stay with ur instincts

The only time my heart gets fast in a workout is when I'm doing barbell curls. I'm using so my energy on them I'm practically hyperventilating to get enough air.

I do cardio on leg days, which is twice a week for me. IMO, I wouldn't do cardio more than this if gaining muscle mass is your number one priority.

It also depends on what your training for too. You weightlifting is givin your heat a better cardio workout than some ass sittin on the couch eating chips all day. I'm not big on cardio myself (its pretty damn boring) but I do a decent bit of it cause I train for hockey.

I was never a big cardio fan because it was such a pain in the ass, but now I do it on my off day 3 times a week and that really makes a difference with your look, your body feels tighter, your veins are exposed more, and your cuts of course look much better.
