I have just started lifting weights and I have some questions. Firstly, I must say that my goal is not to become huge. I just want to lose body fat and become toned. I want my muscles to have definition without the overly large appearance. Anyway, my quesiton is, what method would be more effective for my goal, less sets with more weight or more sets with less weight? My second question is what exercises can I do to firm up my butt? Again, I don't want the large muscle, just to be defined and firm. Thank you for your help.

If you want to 'get toned' you should be doing more sets and more reps with light light weight. Do a set until it burns in the muscle. Don't associate the burn with your muscles getting big though....because they won't be getting bigger. Make sure the max # of reps you can do is over 15.

To burn ass fat go onto a stair master and do that till it burns....or you could do light squats with high reps. Another thing that works fine is just lying on the floor and flexing you ass muscles until they burn.

If you want lots definition though cardio is best to burn a belly/lovehandles. Treadmills, running, skipping, whatever....do it on an empty stomach in morning for 20 minutes.

Another thing....watch you diet to make sure you don't eat to much fat or carbohydrates.

Cardio will help you get toned Diet makes the diffrence though, get your diet in order.
High reps will not tone you ,diet will.Keep the reps at about 8-12 reps.
