Just wanted to know what worked for you guys.
I mostly prefer heavy low reps and sets. 1-2 sets per exercise 4-6 reps.
Just re-read Arnold Swarzenegger's Encyclopedia where he recommends High Volume.
What are your takes?

crackrot=

High Volume as in 10-15 sets as opposed to my usualu 4-6 sets.

2X per week each body part as opposed to 1X per week.

Im considering this for my monday/thursday workout.

BP 5 X 12-10-8-6-6
Incline 5 X 12-10-8-6-6
Pullover 5 X 12-10-8-6-6
Chins 50 reps
Rows 5 X 12-10-8-6-6
Deadlifts 3 X 8-5-3

I trained like this for years, the result was that i was very lean all year round, but didn't really gain.I think its ok to train a specific lagging bodypart with high volume for a short period, just to shock the muscle but for overall gains i'd stick to low voume work.

Both have worked for me . I periodize my training , though not formally . Ill go through the winter months with lower volume/ heavier weights and a greater emphasis on true power type training , Then i switch up to a higher volume moderate weight routine that employs more sets , reps , and isolation movements . For me the keys are intensity , consistancy , and momentary muscle failure.
Read some of the Arthur Jones or Mike Mentzer stuff ( even Yates "Blood and Simmons training techniques ( both what he Guts"), Louie Simmons ( westside barbell) , and Parrillo . I guess everything i do is based on mentzers theories of recovery and recommends and dosent recommends for powerlifting )

Always change it up. Your bodies like a truck on a muddy road. If you stayin the same path you'll get stuck in a rut after awhile but if you change it up every once in awhile your odds of getting stuck will be less.

I tried 30 sets/week/bodypart that really fucked me up. Now I find 5 sets twice a week
for 3 weeks and then 1 week rest works well.
You can add 10lb to your bench the week you come back from the rest.

I low volume when I train for mass and strength. When I want to cut up or lose body fat, I like to use high volume training. I get more of a defined body.

Your goal is to make yourself sore..(not the ultamate goal..)..so a little of both..i usually do three sets like 8 reps then on the last set ill go real lite and do 30 reps...and it will kill...always change..you want to shock your body

Incorporate Both, Every muscle is different and is made up of its own unique fiber contents therefore each muscle is going to respond differently. As an example I would never train my calves like I train my chest. Its important for one to find the perfect formula for his or her body.

I like to stick with low volume. I feel if you are working hard enough you can blast the muscle in a few sets. Also, after I warm up I like to go straight to my heaviest set. I don't waste energy pyramiding up like 12,10,8, etc. I can blast chest with 5-6 work sets and it will still be sore three days later. I also don't do the same # of sets and reps per exercise. When I talk to people they always say I do 4 exercises 3sets each or 4 sets each. I do 3-4 warmups on the first exercise and 2-3 sets to failure. After that it is one warmup per exercise and 1-2 sets to failure, depending on how I feel that day. I like basic exercises and high intensity for 30-45 min. and then I'm done. This week I'm cutting down my workouts to 3 days from 5 so hopefully the extra recovery will lead to some new strength and growth. Happy Lifting!
