I have been training pretty frequently for about 1 1/2 yrs, making pretty good gains. I did however hit a plateau in gains of mass and strength, but that was overcome by switching to a split body part routine where I spend 2x's per week on a body section. This is were im at currently. I recently started a new job at a freight company, so I am going to be getting an indirect workout and a decent amount of cardio, maybe too much training... I belive. Ive been hitting it hard, balls to the wall in the gym and its been paying off big time. My ? is how can I keep my mass with my given working conditions and workout schedule. I dont want to overtrain, but I still want to keep growing. Any ideas, suggestions, personal experiences?

If your job is demanding on your physically, yes it will affect your workout. You may have less energy in the gym and also start to lose weight. If you want to keep up your gains in the gym, you will have to up your calories because you will be expending a lot of it at work. I know that may be hard for you if you cant take so many breaks. Try some meal replacement shakes and bars if time is an issue for you. You will have to just see for yourself unfortunately. After a couple of weeks on your job, you will know if it's too much to handle by going to the gym and working hard. You may have to cut your workout sessions to 3 or 4 per week and cut back to training each bodypart just once a week (except for your smaller parts). I have been in your situation where I was working my ass off at work and then trying to keep up with my usual intense workout. I began to lose weight like crazy, I was always so tired, I had no energy. I felt like shit all the time. My wife, who is a personal trainer, changed my workout program. I was going 6 days a week at the time, but now I do just 4 days a week and I feel great! I have gained my weight back plus more! I would love to workout more days, but it's too much on my body and it hinders my gains. Also I had to up my calories a lot! I eat 4 solid meals, 1 snack (sandwich, fruit, etc) and 2 meal replacement drinks a day.

What you need to do sober is to up your calories i do not know your body type but a sure fire way to keep your body in a constant state of growth would be to not overtrain, take in at least 4000 calories a day with 2 grams of protein to 1 pound of bodyweight. Being that you have an active schedule 8-9 hours of sleep is essential.

Thanks for the replies. i will take heed to your advice...so i guess upping the calories would do me good. i currently have been supplementing optimum's whey, plus as much whole protein i can get my hands on, or have time to consume. are there any Meal replacement shakes or bars for recommendation for a diet on a schedule?

Meal replacement shakes I have used and are okay: MetRx, Myoplex, Primo Max.

Meal replacement bars: Myoplex, Promax, MetRx, Worldwide Nutrition.

A great meal replacement is N-large by Prolab.50 grams of protein and 700 cals not from sugar either. Plus it won't bloat you so you can eat soon after excellent supplement made me pack on a good 15lbs!

THE BEST BARS ARE World Wide Nutritions Pure Protein Bars, they got a new flavor(Blueberry Cheesecake) that's the bomb, I'm seriously addicted to these things. I got my 1st box a week ago and have had 2 a day since. I guarantee that these will curb your appetite for the sweets that we must stay away from. :-)

One year I had to do alot of major ditch digging type work.

Some days were harder than others, I really tried to watch what I did from day to day. At first I thought I would avoid the harder tasks and find inventive ways to avoid them.

After a while I found that too hard to do so I figured, what the h*ll, I'll go for broke, and did all the harder jobs instead.

What I discovered was that I needed about 10 hours of sleep a night and eat more than I normally do (which was no problem) to allow me to recoupe my strength enough to work out in the gym and dig ditches at the same time.

I guess alot of rearrangements are due. thanks to all that responded. ill be working out lighter for awhile until I adapt to the new schedule, plus eating big. then when i find my groove, ill be back 100%.
