Are there any exercises that can be used as an alternate to deadlifts?

there aren't really any ways to hit what the deadlift hits. you can do hang cleans, straight leg deadlifts (good for hammys too), and do front squats. why not deadlift? if your form is good, do it

Why not do deadlifts? You can always try hyperextensions and good-mornings but nothing quite hits the lower back like deadlifts (plus the hams get a good workout).

My form sucks at deadlifts, so I was looking for something to do in its place. But if theyr really that good I'll just work on my form with light weights. Thanks alot.

The closest thing to dead lifts I know of is sit down rows. Esp. if you lean forward then lean back as you extend.

Like everyone else here I would not substitute them, they are one of the basic exercises that are hard to replace.

Start doing them with a 45 lb bar until your form is good, add the weight as your form improves.

Try deads on the hammerstrength trap machine.Partials in the rack at knee height or below, you should be able to add the pounds on partials. Use correct form,form form.
Bent over rows, t-bar rows, your still lifting from the floor and working your back hard.

Do deads with dumbbells, all the way too the floor, legs slightly bent, rolling the traps in the top position.

you cant deadlift you wuzzz J/K

try this, if you suck in the form department, then try these two tips;

1/ wide feet, wide grip, this way you will have a much better back position.

2/ wide feet and narrow grip, this way you can have your back allmost upright and dont have to be worried about the lowerback.

both are power deadlifts used in competition, so its not the biggest back builder, but it will give you that nice strong look in the back, that i think is impressive, just look at Franco Columbo (if i remember his name right).

For back there is no substitute for the deadlift. Learn it and learn it well!
