Ok lets say that you live in apartments and you cannot just leave it outside your house in the bushes because you recieve your mail in a mailbox of many residents. What do you do? Can you just mark Return to Sender and leave it right inside the dooe of your appt. IP: Logged |

Yes, write return to sender, wrong address and leave it sitting around your house for a few days(3-4) and then you should be good to go! ------------------ IP: Logged |

This is legit info! The above post is correct. Any time I send something to someone I suggest they do this. If you get a knock on the door asking about something you got in the mail, just say "sure I got it, hear it is. I don't have any idea what it is or who sent it. I was just going to take back to the Post office." I have and will wait a week like that. Remember, Better Safe than Sorry! I have also removed the bulk of what was in the box and just left a small quantity to be picked up by the authorities. THIS IS A COMMON and BIG MISTAKE! If they are comeing to visit, they have already opened the box and know whats inside. They have a warrant in hand to search your place but the warrant is ONLY valid for the contents of that box. If everything is in the box when they open it your story is good and they cannot look any further. You sure dont want them to find the rest of your gear! Then you can move and start over. Let me start by saying that I am relatively new to the boards, I'm more of a reader than anything. I am however learing a lot. I must, however, interject my 2 cents worth here. I agree with ASAP. But if the cops have a warrant in hand it is for the entire premises not just the box. That box was already opened after the cops obtained a search warrant. Unless of course US Customs opened it first (no warrant necessary there). You must also consider FDA (Food and Drug Admin.) Yea, those guys are federal agents, some of whom have law enforcement powers. Depending on where you live and how aggressive the cops are and if they have any ties or contacts in the federal gov't, depands on what might happen. Keep in mind, we are using our computers for less than legit things some times which makes them prime for the picking by the cops. They are essentially "Instrumentalities of a crime." A box of goodies isn't in and of itself evidence which will convict you of a crime, but rather a piece of the puzzle. When the totality of the puzzle is constructed (computer files, internet cookies, e-mails, paper records, etc...) that is when one is in deep shit. Jackfrost, Yes, the warrant is for the entire premises. But it for the contents of the that box. The probable cause is what they already know was in the box. If they locate all of the contents of the box they have no further cause unless so stated on the warrant. In most cases it will be the postal inspector that initiated the warrant or contacted other authorities. Unless you ar being looked at or this is not your first encounter with this they will recover the shipment and look harder at the shipper. Thanks for the participation.
