I've been doing some reading on creatine and I'm considering using it for next winter bulk phase. As with most things, research on creatine has been mostly on males. One aricle suggests 3g creatine per day (as opposed to 5g for men) with postworkout meal for 4-6 weeks to see how my body reacts. Does this sound right?

Is 4-6 weeks the optimal time frame for taking creatine? How long of a break should the body be given from creatine? Does anyone have any favorite brands of creatine- I know there are tons out there?

Personally I take creatine all the time. I take it twice a day, before and after my workouts. I take approx 5grams 2x a day. I mix it with my shake or in some crystal light. Make sure you eat something after you take it as well. I take regular creatine monohydrate. I dont like the ones with the fizz and all that extra stuff I have taken a few weeks off here and there, but I pretty much take it year round. I do not get bloated using it and its great for strength etc so I recomend it goodluck

Will creatine become degrade and become ineffective if it is kinda old and has not been sealed airtight?

I also wonder about the Creatine tablets they offer, Sky.

What is the difference from the powder or tablets?

My reading has suggested powder creatine mixed in water - it doesn't dissolve so you have to continually stir it and drink it quickly so it doesn't sit in a glob in your intestines and cause the discomfort it can.

Thanks newbig for your reply...we got some great questions here...anyone else have input? Kaizen, Jaye Lynn, MS, Lobo...anyone?

Use creatine monohydrate. Swirl it up in water then drink it. Creatine powder doesn't glob that I'm aware of. All the other forms are more expensive and no better, if not worse. I use the Eclipse Brand. Creatine over time may degrade into creatinine. I don't keep it around opened more than 6 months. Keep it dry and cool. Avoid the liquid, fizzy, citrate, pyruvate, etc. use monohydrate and use it year round. I can't see any reason to stop unless you take time off from training. Why compromise your growth?

Load for 2-3 days, 5 g, 4 times a day. Then 3-5 g twice a day thereafter.

Thanks F1!

supersizeme - from what I understand if you are having bowel discomfort you are taking TOO much for your body to handle. Your muscles have stored as much as they can and it has to exit somehow!

I use it everyday, 1 teaspoon with my high carb breakfast. Never stop taking it. As a vego I figure I may not be getting enough in my diet, and lots of women don't eat enough red meat, etc... to consume very much naturally. If you take it all the time then you'll get through it fast enough that it won't go bad. But like F1 said, definitely avoid any of the fancy/liquid concoctions.

honestly Sky, my experiences with creatine have been both good and bad at different times in my development. I tried it a couple of years ago and found that my forearms would get too pumped to move ...and my workouts were effectively cut in half (not good). On my last cycle I included it in with the rest of my supplements and did not have the same reaction. That cycle was actually the first time I had combined a healthy dose of vit/min/etc with training, so your guess is as good as any with respect to figuring out which supplement had what impact on my overall success. I can tell you that although tired and overtrained, I wasn't nearly as uncomfortable as I've been known to get as a result of heavy training. I can say that it never gave me the shits: never made me shake or hyperventilate. I've heard some guys claim that it made their heart race ...
As far as I can tell, it helps keep my muscles hydrated, but I do not take the stuff all the time. I will put it back into my regimine as soon as I start my next cycle.

Has anyone tried the serum creatine to avoid the bloating?

In my opinion, the reason serum creatine doesn't cause bloating is because its usually creatinine by the time you ingest it so it doesn't work. The bloating is due to the water that is carried in with the creatine into the muscle, like water following glycogen. We have a couple of members that use the serum creatine. It seems to work when its fresh, but one still gets some water retention from it, because its fresh. I suppose if they let it sit for a while, that will solve the water problem. Shit is expensive as well. I still stay use monohydrate, cheap and effective.
