Hey everyone! I was reading a post earlier and I saw that a couple women were gymnasts! Very cool! I was too. For wayyy too many years, from 4-18. What level did you all get to? I was a competitive Level 10 in Florida. Was going to do gym in college but dislocated/broke my ankle in 20 places and had to retire bc of this major problem. So turned down a few scholarships which really really sucked... Now 5 ankle surgeries later, I'm bodybuilding. I had always wanted to get big while I was in gym but was never allowed to because they always wanted me lean even though I was more of the short, stocky, power gymnast. (definitely a vaulter and tumbler!)

What level were you all? How old are you now and anyone compete in Florida?

Can't wait to hear from you guys!

AJ

I was a gymnast for many many years. I'm 31 and now my 6 year old is into gymnastics too.
I loved the floor and beam. I actually hurt myself not long ago. My little girl was outside with her friends doing little cheers and flips so I decide they must think I am an old woman so I say "Wanna see my backhandspring?" They start cheering and I did the most perfect one and pulled both hamstring muscles, and numerous muscles up and down my back!lol I went in and died. Good Point to remember-Always stretch before showing off to the neighbors kids!

Oh my God, I did the exact same thing about 5 years ago showing off to my husband. Great height and extension-pulled hammies!

Was in gymnastics for about 5 years. Then in high school my family moved to a rural area of Maine where no further instruction was available--ended up playing field hockey instead.

My fav was the vault. Loved that apparatus. Floor exercise junkie. I went to a gymnastics school in Easter PA--Parketts.

I was one of those self taught gymnasts, then finally joined a club when I was about 8. I made it to the pre-competitive level, but quit before I ever competed. I was 11 when I quit, due to money reasons and such. I am now getting ready for my first fitness competition, so my gymnastics background has come in quite handy. I'm surprised at the things I am still able to do, although there are a lot of things that I have lost also. I will actually be beginning gymnastics classes again here in one week. Very excited!!!

I always wanted to, but was too shy to join when I was a kid.

I found out theres classes for adults, so Im going to join in the spring. my mom is pissed cause since it was obvious I was going to be a shrimp she tried and tried to get me to go when i was young!!!

All I can do is a handstand and collapse into a heap after...LOL...that and put my knees up by my ears....cant do the splits though, no matter how much I try. Isnt that weird? Im all double jointed and cant do the splits.

Well, I took gymnastics for a couple of years, but never became a gymnast. I was always afraid I'd break my neck. I spent most of my gymnastics lessons jumping on the trampoline, swinging from the rings, or trying to climb this big rope hanging from the ceiling. I was always getting into trouble for not paying attention!

My mother made me take gymnastics, as well as a number of other after-school activities, all of which I failed miserably at, because she thought I was too horse-crazy.

Pebbels? BWHAAAAAA! (I was talking about the V not the OO......) Your remark is still a classic!

I think Woodward now is just a BMX,Freestyle, Stakeboard, and Rollerblade Camp. I don't think that the gymnasts are still there because i never here anything.

Hey there!
I competed from age 10-15, quit just after they changed over the level system. I was competitive springboard diver before I really got into gymnastics. I wish I would have stayed with the gymnastics, but I got burned out. I just wanted to be a normal kid, not going to meets every weekend and training all the time. I loved bars and floor!
