Flax oil has a very high content of omega 3 fatty acids. These are highly deficient in the modern diet. Omega 3 and 6 are both essential fatty acids. Omega 6 is often supplemented by taking evening primrose or borage oil but it is much less deficient than omega 3. Flax oil is about 4 parts omega 3 to 1 part omega 6.

essential fatty acids (esp. omega 3) are easily destroyed by cooking, light, air, so that is one of the reasons why people are so deficient it them.

It would be quicker to list what EFAs don't do rather than what they do do. They are essential for just about everything.

If you take 12-15% of your calories as EFAs they increase fat burning, insulin sensitivity, and prostaglandin production.

Personally flax oil is one of the, if not THE best supplement I have ever taken. I have never been so healthy or looked so good.

Is there a certain brand anyone recommends? I started dieting and lifting hard again about 2 months ago. i lost 12 lbs and am getting strong as hell again. i have read about everyone on here talking about this Flax oil. I went to Buy some where I buy My ISOPURE drinks, I did not see any. I take it any brand is the same, and from what you guys say, you really dont need to much a day? correct

Is it possible to gain a few pounds from a couple TBS a day? I know your body NEEDS efa's but it's adding extra calories.

I agree with lizzy 100%. When I'm out of flax, I almost panic!! The absolute best brand is Barlean's High Lignan certified organic. It's cold pressed, unfiltered, and has a pressing date along with an expiration date (usually about 4 months). Usually you can get it at a natural food store, most places such as GNC don't carry it. Or, go to the Protein Factory online. 32 ounces for around 16 bux! You just can't get a better price that I'm aware of anywhere. Oh, and they carry the Barleans brand. I notice it's easier for me to keep my bodyfat lower while supplementing flax, so long as the rest of my plan is in order. In other words, it's one thing for me to eat clean and work out, but while using flax, it makes keeping bodyfat low a little easier. You might put on a few lbs of mass on if you're very deficient in efa's. Not overnight, but it will become noticeable in a month or so. Something to keep in mind, Dan Duchaine, the late steroid guru, had put flax oil as the number one supplement on his supplement list. He said it wasn't an option, but a necessity.
