My family always celebrates Christmas together. However, it seems every one goes overboard with spending more than they can afford, the neices and nephews who never call me or talk to me show up looking for their presents, my sisters give me bitch bites for bringing my laundry home for my mom to do, etc....

So, this year, I told my folks I was going to go skiing with a friend at Tahoe. They tried and tried to talk me into coming home but I said this year I wanted to do something different. I think I hurt their feelings which was the farthest thing that I wanted to do. Anyway, they sent all their presents to me a few days ago because I wouldn't be home.

Anyway, the Tahoe trip fell through and I'm in San Francisco all by my lonesome for the long week-end. Most of my friends have gone home to be with their families. Luckily, my best pal will be around (we're going to the movies tonite to see "State & Main").

I'd feel like a total ass if I told my parents the trip fell through and I wanted to come home. I'd lose all credibility.

"Cast Away" comes out and you're seeing something else?

What bug crawled up your ass?

You may not respect your family by dissing them for the Holidays, but by God you better show some respect to Mr. Hanks!

Tom Hanks gained and shed 60lbs for your benefit, goddamn you!!

I wanted to see Mr. Hanks but my friend didn't. It's all about compromise. (I'll see it with another friend probably.)

I agree with Johnny. If you want to go home......GO HOME!!!

My family does the same thing with me. They always spend way to much money. After years and years of telling them to stop the insaniety, I've come to realize it is there way of telling me they love me. This coming from a crazy bunch who cannot really show affection. So they do it in another way. You know your mom and dad love you, and would be more than happy if you come home for Christmas. I bet they wouldn't even ask why, just tell them you changed your mind.

I can't. I've wanted them to make just some very very small changes regarding how we celebrate Christmas for years and years. If I gave in and went home, there'll never be changes. I'm hoping that I've made my point that I don't really enjoy Christmas the way they do it now and that next year, they'll make at least a token change.

So, I'm going to stay here and feel sorry for myself. I'm so sad.

Are you implying that you celebrate Christmas like Kevin Spacey's family in "The Ref" and everyone has to wear a halo made of mistletoe and burning candles ?

Well this is interesting... what small change is required? All we do is sit around the table, eat, and open presents. Both mine and Gabriel's family does that. I thought everyone did. We will be hosting Gabriel's family on the 24th, and we will be going to my mom's on the 25th.

Shit man talking about taking your ball and going home.

Give and take happens on both sides.
Dude I did your route - Brother married my X, bitch always starting shit - so I took my wife on vacation every year for four years.

Its hard -

Off at the beach and the family calls down to wish you a happy holidays. And all you can think about is were my fuckin beer as your wifes cry her eye out.

Thing that gets me now is I missed the last four year of holidays with my grandfathers. He was the best and I can't get that back.

Now with the nieces and nephews I'm the only who will play with them. It makes my brother and his wife so mad. The kids think I'm the shit. I've got my nephew (my X's boy) saying uncle Cleaner rules. Its the best. She thinks swimmers have the best bodies (uhnhhm - ok, yeah right) and BB suck. So I've got the little guy throwin down double biceps and shit. He loves it so what can she do.

Stand your ground Bro but just know everyone pays for this one. You would be better to leave your laundry at home and buy all the kids saving bonds. And like my fathers say "don't make him mad and he won't tell you off. Whats so hard about that!"

Good luck

From my perspective, it's worse than what happened in "The Ref" - great flick btw.

We have some traditions in our family that are pretty cool. We have an annual fish fry every July, family concert nite, etc. But, we have one Christmas tradition that I've had enough of. This is so embarassing but here goes:

Every Christmas Eve, one of my sisters (they take turns every year) shows up wearing a Santa Claus costume and knocks the door for a visit from "Santa". "Santa" comes in and sits in front of the Christmas tree and pulls out a list. On this list is all of our names and we have to take turns sitting on "Santa's" lap.

While we're sitting there, "Santa" proceeds to tell everyone how your fuck ups for the previous year and the family "judges" whether you deserve a present. Everyone sits there and laughs at you. For example, my sister got married to a guy she didn't know well and filed for divorce after 5 days. "Santa" made several jokes at my sister's expense. Although she laughed, it was painful for me to watch. Last year, "Santa" really played up the fact that I had really poor judgement in friends because I loaned a friend several thousand dollars (to help him bail out his business) and that he subsequently stiffed me in a bankruptcy.

My family thinks this stuff is hilarious, I think it borders on sadism.

That was the only thing I wanted them to quit doing. The rest of the stuff I could deal with.

Sorry To hear that shit Bro --
That is over the top. They would have had a good time with me!!!!!

In that case I would resort to the old don't make him mad and he won't tell you off.
