What is it with these people that feel like they have to tell you how to live your life? Like they've got the supreme angle, and they talk to you like they KNOW they're gonna get a better seat in the theatre when things are all said and done. I get so tired of this crap. And don't get me wrong, I'm not an athiest by any means, but the truth is, we're all just mere humans who have nothing to go on except gut feelings and an old book. Face it......we're all gonna die. It sucks, but nothing will change that. I say enjoy your life while you're here....surely god will understand that.

Religion for the most part is just mental conditioning. They're gonna tell you what and how to think, just like a robot. Some people get so involved they lose their true identity. It's like Cheech and Chong's old album...."I used to be all messed up on drugs.....now I'm all messed up on the lord".

Spunky....you bring up an excellent point. Who is right and who is wrong? Personally, since I can't say I'm completely sure that Christ is my savior...... as I have no real proof he exists......how can I truly have faith in him? It's gotta be all or nothing right? You can't pray with 85% faith right? And just how does one obtain this "certainty"? I'm just asking.....not wanting to fight with anyone here.

I got to a Christian School and all I hear is about how the music I listen to is gonna make me go to hell and how all the guys look at too much porn on the net. It's pretty funny though cuz all they teachers are totally oblivious. They think that if a person prays in class or something it means that that person is a goody good christian, where its the exact opposite all my classmates are either stoned out of their mind 24/7 or having sex like there is no tomorrow. It makes school a little more enjoyable. Peebs

For the record.....I believe in a "higher" power.....but I refuse to try to allow someone to convince me that they know just exactly "who" this is. No one has a clue.

Ok i have seen all the posts on religion and Im finally gonna give my 2 cents. I agree that most church people are arrogant and very prideful to think that they have all the answers. The first thing you have to accept is that the bible is the inerrant word of God. If you dont believe that there is some standard that God has for us than there is really no reason to try to live by it. If there is a God would He let man manipulate His word to say what they please? I have read a couple of posts on how the bible was changed to allow those who did that to use it in a way that was benefical to them. I dont really know what went on but I do know that if there is an all powerful being that has a standard for us to live by He wouldnt let mere man change that. Second we need to get into the word and read it for ourselves to find out what God wants us to do rather that have someone else tell us what to do. There are alot of humble pastors out there who speak the truth and are worth listening to. Go to the standard and find out by yourself.

Unfortunately in our world, too many people have manipulated the Word of God and even the purpose of the church. Why do you think that when people hear the word "church", they think of corruption, boring sermons, perverted priests and clergymen and basically a brainwashing institution? And its true...there are people who fall under these categories. But at the same time, there are the ones who are truly devoted humble servants who do the will of God.

Religion = Socially acceptable form of mental insanity.

Faith = Blind belief. Belief in the abscense of any evidence.

Faith isn't limited to matters of the spiritual. Ever work for a goal? Ever believe in yourself?

It's all faith bro. You believe in what you cannot see.

I hear you matt. I think we just differ in the definition of the actual word.

I like to think of the "faith" you refer to as "rational and calculated confidence". In other words knowing I can finish my goal is "faith" as you would say. I believe I can acheive my goals because I have a rational reason to- based on what I know and believe I can accomplish.

delts, that is an excellent point right there.
either you have faith or you don't - you can't take the split on God! people who say "well, i'm SORT OF a christian/mormon/buddhist" etc. puzzle me.
if you believed in a god, then why would you buggerize about 'half' doing his bidding?

i think there must be a great mental security to be able to abandon yourself to your fate 100% knowing that god was there...maybe people subconsciously seek that security out and instill it for peace of mind...sometimes i wish i could too.

Here is my take, some people may not be too happy with this. I think churches are scams. Just another way people make money. Yes I believe in god and the whole bit, but I don't believe that going to church every sunday will make you a better person.

Barbarian......exactly my point.....I truly do want to "believe", but I am of "this world", so I truly only can believe what is tangible. The people that consider themselves 100% devoted to god.......are kidding themselves. I am 100% convinced that higher powers rule this domain....but that's the beginning and the end of my belief.

One of the main teachings of Christanity is that God gave man freewill. If he proved that he was there, it wouldn't be freewill anymore, you would have to believe in him and worship him. Instead he gives you a choice. I am not a very religious person but the one thing that I have gottan outta of 12 years of catholic school is this- The only thing that God asks of you is to love thy neighbor.
It think that Organized religion can be bad, very bad. But calling people who belive in a higher power weak minded is going a little too far. People point out that you can't prove that there is a God, but can your really prove %100 that there isn't one? I still think the Big Bang theroy sounds just as far fetched.

"A God who let us prove his existence would be an idol." Dietrich Bonhoeffer
