-Go's through extreme "up" and "downs" for emotions.
-Has to do 'everything' (work 50hs/wk with a full class schedule, while devoting time to national guard and other things.
-Frequently pushes people out of her life
-Supresses feelings
-Cleans constantly, thouroughly, everyday.
-Never feels like she has done enough--doesnt want to relax.
-One minute extrememly happy, the next minute extremely depressed and lonely.
-Often feels misunderstood
-Cant figure out the "why" of life, or what she is destined to do in life.

Is this a "borderline-personality disorder"? or some other disorder?

lemme know what you find out, 'cause thats me!

Acutally, I was diagnosed with chronic depression (as adverse to situational) born with it, die with it...took Prozac for a while, a little counselling, and decided to dump the drugs. I'm no figgin treat to live with, but I'm managing to "communicate" more whenits not a good day.

I'm also told Im slightly obsessive compulsive..not a medical diag, just observations from friends.

I have no answers though because I am lucky enough to be creative and have the opportunity to channel the demons into constructive ways.

Im describing my GF, and after talking to a counselor and many friends, im starting to realize that there may be something wrong with her. Im doing some research as well as asking her to go see someone (she said many people have told her to do that).

thats sort of what happened to me...I was dating a guy and things got really really bad after my dad died and he told me if I didnt get some pills or something he was going to leave me.
So, hating his guts, I did, everything came out in the wash, and he dumped me anyway.

However, those two things (insisting I had a prob and dumping me) were the two best things that ever happened to me. My family are very uptight and anal, and just always treated me like a was just a musician freak.

Once they (and I for that matter)found out there was really something worng with me it got much better.

LOL MP5...believe what you will.

Suspen...she knows she has a problem, but is afraid to admit it...seriously, who wants to be told they are crazy? Think about it for a minute.
My friend, the one I mentioned earlier, is ashamed of it, and she hides it, doesnt even want her roomate to know she has to take pills. Me, I'm not afraid to admit it, and my attitude is..if you have a problem dealing with it, then get the fuck out of my life. I have enough people who care about me that I don't have to deal with jerks.

Depends on how you read into the symptoms...bipolar is pretty extreme..I know a guy who has it, and believe me, I am as sane as the day is long compared to this guy.

Iron chick is close. Your girlfriend is exhibiting clear signs of a less severe variant of bipolar disorder called cyclothymia. Cyclothymia is characterized by intense mood fluctuations but these episodes are less severe than those that accompany bipolar disorder. People with clycothemia also appear to have unusually high rates of creativity and occupational success. For example it is thought that Ernest Hemmingway and Sylvia Plath both suffered from either cyclothymia, bipolar disorder or a related condition.

Her need to always keep busy(work, volunteer, etc) sounds like evidence of hypomanic episodes which is also indicative of cyclothymia.

You should take her to see a psychiatrist or clinician to be diagnosed and treated. Bipolar disorder and its variants, which include cyclothymia, can be treated rather effectively with Lithium. Hope this helps.

Great. Now Im prolly even more crackers than I thought.
Thanks. You ruined my day.

Regardless...none of us are psychiatrists, or qualified to give a diag. bottom line is, shes gotta find out. Its better to know and deal with the consequences than not to know and be scared.

Dr. Dwller thinks it's manic depression for starters. And she has other issues. Just a hunch, but when she was growing up, did her mom wear the pants in the family (or was daddy gone from the picture)?

Daddy was gone from the picture, step daddy abused a sibling(maybe even her) sexually.

I was thinking manic too, but that is really extreme. I think im going to look into this cyclothymia.

How do I let her know that she needs to see someone?

We just broke up a few days ago, but even before this, lately she has been sleeping all the time, which is really uncharacteristic of her. She also has changed her eating habits where if she eats too much one day, the next day she wont eat at all, or maybe one meal. She is starting to get obsessed about working out (2-3 times a day!)

I figure she may be overtraining or something, but she has been sad too. The weird thing is, just last week she was FINE, really happy with us, with her life, with everrything and all the changed in a day. Nothing drastic really happened. Thats when i talked to the counselor at our university, and thats when i found out she may have some sort of disorder, even though YOU DONT SEE THESE THINGS RIGHT AWAY!

I have to say that there are some real comedians on this board. "She is a typical woman." That is soooooo original, too bad these are real problems. And before you all get your panties in a wad....I know some of you were just kidding, lightening the mood, etc. It was just getting a little old so I had to give my .02.

thats me bro i work 50hrs a week and maintain a full school schedule including working out.i was always told i was an over achiever and a perfectionist.ive calmed down since h.s but not that much.
i do however think over doing it is a good thing,i get shit done and i cant say that about most people i know.
the same people who tell me i study too much are the ones calling me a night before the exam.the only fault to it is i absolutley cant work with people i get frustrated when they dont know simple shit and i become extremely rude to the person.
my patience is minimal.

I disagree with the type A...my brother is classic type A...makes the big bucks, works 100 hours a week, always on the go, nothings ever good enough, but at the same time he is very quiet, very reserved, even tempered...

unlike me, who is between A and B, and I am NOT normal.

Type A personality can be dangerous?

First off, she doesnt feel good about what she does no matter how much she does.

She always goes through mini boughts of depression, she even admitted that to me.

She always says its not me, she is just feeling down lately.
