I've had him since he was a pup he wasn't one of my hunting dogs he was a pet, and my best friend for 12 years.
He got cancer of his lymph glands and he took a turn for the worse a couple of days ago.
I think he knew something was up cause he would follow me everywhere around the house even waiting outside the bathroom for me.
I didn't want him to suffer, it was like he was fighting to keep going but it was a battle he could never win.
So this morning I got the vet to come round and I sat with him on his beanbag while she gave him the injection.
I cried like a baby but in my heart I know I did the right thing, hard though it was.

Rest In Peace little man.

My dog is 9 years old. He plays like he is just a puppy, but I know that someday we will have to say goodbye. I absolutely dread that day. I am so sorry that you had to do it the way you did, but I am sure that it was the right thing, and the only thing to do. I would have done it! Feel better....

Take comfort in knowing that you did the self-less, right thing.

i feel your pain!!! all too much. its going to take a LONG time to get over, but look at it this way, you were able to spend 12 years with the puppy, he lived a very long life. i think its better to lose a pet who had a full life then one who hadnt. good luck

I had to do the same thing not too long ago with my Collie. She got cancer in her hip and after awhile, she had to drag her whole back end around all the time. She drug her feet so much that they had started to come apart and bleed everywhere. She was in pain everday, and there was nothing we could do. We decided that it was best to put her down because she was suffering so badly. I still have that image of her just laying there as that injection went in. Talk about something that is painful to watch. Never want to do it again.

...I'm sorry....that is one of the worst things to deal with...I put down my dog of 8 years after he was suffering too much from heart disease.....took me over a year till I was ready for another one....I still miss my baby

One quote I heard...I only wish I could be half as great as the person my dog thinks I am ...dogs are the best
