What am I looking for when I buy one of these?

With regular ones we'd always judge them on ZOOM- does the same apply here?

Is this a good one.... http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=495502020

Thanks.

the CCD is a little low on resolution, but depends on your purpose, It seems OK.

Zoom is a little small, Mine has 400x Digital. and make sure it is Firewire.

For zoom only pay attention to the optical zoom, the digital zoom is far overrated, it is very pixelated after so far. The optical zoom is a true zoom, sharp and clear, usually at least 20x, higher the better. I've never seen zoom on 24x.

Firewire is good, but you will also be needing the card for your pc slot. This makes it possible to edit on your computer, and depending on connection, emailing small clips.

I Have a Sony Digital 8, with the 3.5" screen
A tri-pod is great for taping something in the distance, minimizing the jitter. They do have digital stabilization for a smoother picture.

Do certain cameras work with certain computers or are they universal?

If they have Firewire they all work, (well should). And stay away from Digital 8.

Mini DV is the only true digital. And yes Optical is the test. But I disagree. If you have a good MINIDV , not D8 the Digital Zoom is very good. D8 is not even really digital. It was sony's idea to try and keep the market.
