I read this in a dicussion board on cnn.com... [This is what I have a problem with: How can you claim to be a champion of democracy, honest, and the epitome of character when you will not allow the will of the people to be made clear? If every vote is counted, the results will be whatever the vote was. Nothing will change. So, why fight the recount? If you are the winner, you are the winner. That will not change. You have your party affiliates there just as the other party does. What is at risk? Could it be that you may really think you are not the winner? If that is the will of the people in this democracy, that's that. Besides, if your brother is the governor of the state and your father is the former head of the CIA and you can't fix an election any smoother that this, I don't want you to head up anything! So, get somewhere and sit down! Open a bag of pork rinds and chill!] I guess the good ole boys may not get away with this one    | ||

Sigh. I would think that a response to this has been posted sufficiently to not warrant the need for another one, but apparently Democrats are that dumb. Why are they only recounting, and playing "what did the voter INTEND to do" with the ballots in 5 heavily Democratic counties? Gee, maybe because doing so in those counties will fetch more votes for Gore? Why aren't they playing "what did the voter INTEND to do" with the ballots of the heavily Republican Florida counties where ballots were thrown out? Why aren't they playing that game with ALL of the ballots that were thrown out in the entire United States? You want to know why? Not only does it take forever, but it also corrupts the integrity of the presidential election. We switched to machine counting a LONG time ago to prevent just this - subjectivity. "Those who cast the votes decide nothing. Get the picture? The vote counting machine is programmed to go through all of the ballots, check and see which hole is punched, and give a vote to the corresponding candidate. The machine shows no favoritism. The machine makes few mistakes. The [Democratic] person counting the votes DOES show favoritism and he/she DOES make MANY mistakes. Giving a vote to a candidate for a hole that was not completely punched IS a mistake because ballots like that are NOT VALID. I am proud to be a born American citizen, but I am very disappointed in my country today. How is it possible, that in the year 2000, over 2 centuries after it was just a baby just born, after going through so much, has resorted to holding ballots up to the light to decide its President. why would the sq. mileage won matter at all? if there is one person for every sq. mile in some county in Montana, and there are 100 square miles in a county and 51 vote for one of the candidate, then the candidate wins 100 sq. miles, now if there is a county where there are 20 people per square mile, etc... ~leaf~ | ||

YOU MAY BE DISGUSTED BUT YOU DONT REALIZE THAT GOVERNOR BUSH SIGNED A LAW STATING THAT HAND COUNTING OF BALLOTS ARE MORE ACCURATE AND SHOULD BE ALLOWED.ALSO THE DEMOCRATS ARE LOOKING FOR AN EARLY CLOSURE WHILE REPUBLICANS ARE NOT.GORE IN HIS SPEECH A FEW MINUTES AGO SAID HE WILL NOT PURSUE ANY LEGAL ACTION,UNLIKE THE 8+ SUITS THE REPUBLICANS HAVE SO FAR,WHICH NOT TO MENTION HAVENT MADE A SINGLE SUCCESS YET.ALSO ITS NOT VOTER INTENTION THATS BEING QUESTIONED,ITS WHEN THE CHAD IS HANGING WHICH HAPPENS FREQUENTLY.IT IS EASY TO TELL WHO THE VOTE SHOULD GO TO.THE REAL PROBLEM IS THE OUTDATED VOTING SYSTEMS. ------------------
