This year he got 373,000 votes. Dissapointingly down from 96' total of 478,000. However, the closeness of the election played a critical role. Nader didn't get anywhere near projections, for example.

As for Harry Browne, I know little about his personal character. He admits to pot use, but then again he isn't being a hypocrite because he wants to legalize it. The main thing about the Libertarian Party is that it is a party of principle. It has been around since 1972 and doesn't rely on a cult figure such as Nader. This is the last year Browne will run I think, but he will have a worthy successor I am sure.

If you want more info the best places are: www.lp.org and www.issues2000.org/Harry_Browne.htm

As a whole the party is growing very rapidly, and if you look around the internet, you will notice many Republicans are beginning to vote Libertarian, or are considering it. On the local level the LP set records for combined votes for all their House and Senate candidates, around 1.6 million. In one state, we challenged a Republican for second place in the senate race, trailing by a mere 1%.

Anyway, check it out, and even join the LP if you feel strongly enough about it. I think you will agree with us on the issues.

1 more thing to add. Harry Browne had no federal funds to spend, and the media basically had a "Browne-out". They refused to mention his name despite his lead over Buchanan in most pre-election polls. If he had gotten the publicity of Nader, he would have beaten Nader, IMO.
