I have been thinking a lot about philosophy and religion lately, and discussing it with my some people. I was brought up in a christian home, I go to church, and I believe in my faith. I have talked to a lot of people that feel that their religion is most definitely the one, and if you are not practicing your religion basically you are going to hell. Today I was pondering this and this popped into my head Religion is in fact nothing more than a regional phenomenon. If I was born in China I would be buddist, if I was born in india I would be hindu, If I was born in the middle east I would be Muslim, Mexico I would be Catholic. I truly feel that Christianity is the right religion for me, but what I do not understand is how can anyone claim that their religion is the ONLY one. I realize this post does not have a question to it. But I really would like to discuss this with some of you guys.     | ||

i believe its whats in your heart. i was reborn again back in 96 , but i have kinda fallen since then. i just cant take people pushing religion down my throat. who is anyone to tell me if i do not believe in their religion i am going to hell. those people can go to hell. jesus died for all of us, and for are sins. i believe in that!!! not in a bunch of hipocrits. ------------------ | ||

I don't force my faith on anyone and expect the same from them. I honestly do not believe that going to Church is necessary, with the exception of funerals and the sacraments (sp). It doesn't make you any different of a person. I know people who are complete assholes and go to church. Once the hour is over they're back to the shitty ways they had 2 hours prior. Then I know people who don't go to church and are good people all around. Also know the vice-versa of the above. ------------------ | ||

sharps, its nice to see someone who has their mind open on the issue of religion. people who think their religion is the only one tend to be intolerant. everyone needs to think outside the box every once in a while. i'm an atheist myself, but i understand that people's upbringings and life experience affect the choice of religion so much that i try not to let their religion affect my opinion of them. sometimes its hard, but mainly because someone has to become a hardcore zealot and get in my face about it. | ||

I'm with freak daddy goodness is a major part of my belief. The China story rings true, just because somebody was never told of christ they are going to hell? no i don't thinks so. GOODNESS and the belief in christ in my book, if you were told about christ. | ||

It's true that depending on your family background and country of origin has a lot to do with how you were raised... .. but as an adult you have a choice in what religion you want to practice. You can learn about the differences between them, and find one that helps to bring you peace. All the religions speak of the same issues when all the dogma and trapings are stripped, so I would think it would be cool if we did abandon the stories that makes us different, and stick to the lessons and ideas that make us the same. But it's not going to happen. | ||

Jesus Christ is Lord In my Life, With out Him Im sure I wouldn't be here today. Of course as humans well fail all the time, you don't have to live the perfect life, It has been by grace you have been saved. No amount of good works, No amount of praying, No amount of going to church will get you into heaven. The only way that can get you into heaven is Thru Jesus. Rommel I agree with you I too am a Christian I can quote just about any verse off the top of my head due to 15 years of private christian schooling. BUT. Do you think that if you grew up in china instead of oklahoma Jesus would still be the lord of your live...I dont. | ||

Well I felt like I should respond to this thread so here is my 2 cents. First of all I was basically raised in a christian upbringing. Right now I'm the only one in my family who attends church regularly. They have services about three times a week. Normally when I am doing well spiritually I go to all of them and look forward to it. Lately I have not been doing so well, I have noticed that when you are down people stab you in the back big time. I don't know if it is just my imagining but I feel like when I need support they want to tell me how big of a sinner I am. I still believe that without Jesus Christ and baptism/repentance/Holy Spirit I will go to hell (and i believe everyone else will too of course) I feel like I have always been very laid back about my faith. I believe in it strongly but I do not push it off on other people and tell them they are going to hell or tell them what a sinner that the Bible says they are. This is ridiculous, it accomplishes absolutley nothing, I am not sure why some christians do this. If you want to win a soul to the Lord i believe you first have to be friends with them and not take a "holier than thou" attitude. We are all sinners according to the Word of God, It is only because of what He did on the cross that we are saved. So why would a christian try to be a self righteous hypocrite? Sadly, a lot of them seem to almost pride themselves on doing so. I think that if you truly want to have a relationship with God, just open your heart and your mind to him, He will guide you, find a church that teaches Bible truth and study your bible. If you don't read your Bible you will have no idea what is pleasing to God, obviously. If the church has any grey areas that they'd rather not explain or that seems contradictory, maybe that church isn't a good one to attend. Lately I have been missing Sundays at church and about a week ago my pastor talked to me, he approached me in a very rude manner and he basically demanded that I be there next time. I don't think thats a very smart way to get people to come to your church, I'm not going to be there much longer. Again, like i said, I understand what its like to be knocked down by a hypocrite or whatever. I want to be as open minded as possible.......I am a spiritual wreck right now....my life sucks...but i'm trying to get it back together....... ------------------ | ||

About the regional thing, I think that Jesus is still God no matter where, obviously. Its very interesting that you bring that up. I've thought alot about that, too. But I can say that, America is the most powerful nation in the world. We have a lot of problems of course but it seems that the majority of americans are at least God-fearing and do believe in the Lord Jesus. Other countries of course have other religions that, by the christin faith, are viewed as idols. This, I believe, is why we are the most powerful nation in the world, because we fear and worship God more then the idolatrous other countries. Again not to judge them, this is just my opinion......does that make sense? | ||

Well how would you explain it steel beast? I understand your doubt and sometimes I doubt it too. But like, I pay my tithes and offerings etc. It seems like the more I give the more money I have left to spare. If you want people to be open minded or whatever why aren't you being open minded bro.....just consider it. i agree with you again SB. to say this country is god fearing...HAHAHAHAHA. if you call people who have sex before marriage repeadedly, steal, and cheat every single day god fearing, you need to get a clue. lots of people are christians because its the "cool" thing to do, but in reality less than 5% of this country is a christian in practice. | ||

Yeah man, there are a lot of the television preachers who I have my doubts with, some of those people might be out for the money, they claim they are called of God but its hard to believe, they do not act like most men of God. Again i'm not gonna say anything derogatory, but from what i have seen, most of the Benny Hinn stuff is dramatized. Sometimes things like that can happen and I have seen God do it, but its usually not that dramatic. Thats all i gotta say....i'm going to bed....gnite | ||

I believe that more "sins" are commited on US soil than on any other country on earth. That is what has made this country so great is that we are the so-called most evil nation on the face of this planet. I think our "sins" bring us more power as a nation and more economic prosperity! One day science will advance enough to prove once and for all there is no god. People are too scared to belive there isnt a god, all looking foward to that non existent afterlife seems pretty dim, but all in all is reality. Most idiots belive in god out of fear, just in case there is, but deep down know the truth but cant admit it.
